With sadness, I write these words in memory of Ashley Morris, a blogger who died last Wednesday at the age of 44.
In recent weeks, Ashley commented occasionally here at Undercover Black Man. He listed me on his blogroll; I listed him on mine.
Ashley was a huge fan of “The Wire.” That’s how he found me. (He co-authored the New Package, a group blog devoted to “The Wire.”)
He was also a big Warren Zevon fan, and he hooked me up with some MP3s on the down low.
Ashley was a computer science professor at DePaul University, but his heart and soul were in New Orleans. His home too, in fact. Prof. Morris commuted every week from NOLA to his job in Chicago. He was a passionate advocate for his city.
He leaves behind a wife and three young children. My warmest thoughts are with them.
The funeral will be Friday.
I want to spin a record in honor of Ashley Morris. It’s a live cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” by New Orleans R&B artist Mem Shannon. Click here to hear it.

I did not know him at all but am very sorry to hear of his death. I wish peace to his family and may his soul rest in eternal peace.

That's sad.
RIP Ashley.
Oh no, I read that blog a lot during The Wire's 5th season. Always loved his comments too. Damn, sad.
R.I.P. Mr. Morris.
Condolences....as we geeks used to say: If end goto 10.
Peace to the Morris family, and may they find strength and comfort.
