Murdered today: Andre Darnell Bradford

In Columbus, Ohio, early this morning, 47-year-old Andre Darnell Bradford was stabbed and killed after an argument on the street with a 44-year-old man.

For African-American males of all ages, homicide was the fifth-leading cause of death in 2004. More black men died from murder than from diabetes.

For white males in 2004, homicide wasn’t even among the top 10 causes of death.

Y'all know you need a nude negro law.

^ How's that law working out at your mama's house, peckerwood?

Okay, since we're bringing this close to home... This murder occurred in one of the poorest and most violent areas in the city.

So, I will ask again: what do you think the stats mean?

Dysgenics?

^ Perhaps it's happening because we tolerate it. In a way that we do not tolerate "racial profiling."

Shoot... muhfuggahs can't shut up about "racial profiling."

We tolerate a lot of things.

Isn't it possible to be outraged by both? Can your readers have an honest discussion about why the homicide rate in the black community is so high? I have read name calling, the questioning of your racial identity, but no real answers.

And yes, dysgenics should be part of that discussion. Why? Because, whether people want to acknowledge it or not, it's what's prompting some of the vitriol behind the question you ask. Folks have are suspicious that inferiority, and/or a predispostion towards violence is somehow being implied.

^ I don't believe in a "dysgenic" theory of criminal violence. I believe in a cultural breakdown.

I believe this red tide of murder is the consequence of a way of being that scorns traditional values such as education, law-abidingness and work. And a loss of influence by institutions which transmit those values -- the two-parent family, the church.

And a rise in the influence of nihilistic cultural products such as gangsta rap, which scorns those values.

Not to mention a culture of racial politics which focuses entirely on what society owes black people... and focuses hardly at all on what black people owe society.

^Thank you for that response. Our current "way of being" didn't happen overnight. There are reasons for this that need to be examined. I've spent years trying to figure out what the hell happened after the Black Power movement, and there are a lot of theories that have been set forth.

What "black people owe society" is to stop focusing on what white people owe us. Our society is not equal, yet it doesn't justify the cultural suicide taking place.

Thing about it, Kimberly... is that Du Bois and other thinkers were stressing about Negro crime 100 years ago. It was part of the calculus of racial uplift.

Today, some folks are just embarrassed to even think about it. Others try to Mau-Mau the discussion back to the psychologically safer ground of Da White Man.

And lives get taken in bunches.

A two-parent home (I grew up in one)is important, and if you believe in a higher power - so is church. Being a single mother is not easy...nor is it something I wanted to be.

Personal responsibility plays a huge role in all of this. Being called a baby-mamma who is contributing to the downfall of the community by so-called intellectuals of the blog-o-sphere isn't helpful either. There's so much finger pointing without real dialogue. And, no, this is not a personal swipe - just an observation of other blogs.

That's the bottom line.

W.E.B. also directly linked unemployment, social conditions, and lack of education to crime.

Had to fix this...

Ah, well, glad you agree. I'm doing my best to keep the little one off the stripper pole, corner, and out of the gun shop.

UBM attacks Black folks for not mirroring White ethos which he claims has a work ethic, respect for traditional values, education etc..

Yet it never stopped them racist mother fuckers from racial profiling, jim crow laws, disparate treatment and outcomes..

UBM's love for white cultural ethos never did help white kids from being assaulted sexually by white priests...It never stopped white germans from killing 6 million jews..Tim McVeigh, serial killers, drug dealers, sexual perverts on the internet "proporationally white perverts ) ..I love using UBM proportional stat bullshit to make my point...lol,lol,lol

UBM is a fucking racist..

Nipsey dipshit: your mama invented the nude negro law. That be why you so sensitive about it. It worked during reconstruction, it'll work now.

I don't know.

I was just over at Glenn Loury's spot. He claims that black Americans are not really "a people," that they have no independent agency to act apart from the larger society.

These problems, then, are not black problems, but American problems, which require American solutions.

If what Loury's saying is true, it looks like a hopeless situation, because white Americans are never going to care very much if black men are killing each other. (Leaving aside the not so small minority who find this a cause for celebration.)

^You know what? I don't think even black people give a shit. Look at the responses to these posts.

Post a black mom damn near abusing her kid and that gets reactions.

"Gee whiz, folks isn't it great to see ourselves represented on You Tube?"

Post criticism of Obama.

"You're not really a black man, racist redneck!"

Whatever...
