A free Mulatu Astatke download

In the mood for a different groove? I always am.

Ethiopian jazz pioneer Mulatu Astatke has collaborated with a band of British hipsters called the Heliocentrics for a new album: “Inspiration Information, Vol. 3.”

One track is available as a FREE MP3. Click here to hear “Masenqo” on my Vox blog. To download it, follow this link to RCRD LBL.

I like the bridge alot..Sounds much like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on the wrong speed.. Interesting though.
Shame they have to rip off the name of a Shuggie Otis album though.
btw, while yo and I disagree on the whole Progressive chick stuff, the call on Imagination was nice. I just got the album in the mail and spun it out for my people and it was very well received.. thanks again for the look.

^ Very cool, James. I can't remember what we disagreed about musically... but glad you checked this piece out.

Perhaps I should've explained that "Inspriation Information" -- while indeed a rip (or "tribute to") Shuggie Otis -- is a CD series from Strut Records that puts old-timers together with younger artists. Vol. 1 put Amp Fiddler in the studio with Sly & Robbie.
