Below is the trailer for a new film, “Lakeview Terrace,” starring Samuel L. Jackson as a cop who terrorizes an interracial couple that moves in next door.
It also stars Kerry Washington and Patrick Wilson (the castratee in “Hard Candy”), and was directed by Neil LaBute, a filmmaker who seems to relish human nastiness.
“Lakeview Terrace” was produced by Will Smith’s company.
I remember reading about a real-life California case like this. But apparently the movie isn’t based on ex-LAPD officer Irsie Henry.
Sam Jackson looks good in the role, no? “Lakeview Terrace” opens September 19.

wonder if he'll be drinking this beer on his off time:

^ Hee-hee...
SLJ can sure bring the scary.
It'll be interesting to see conservative reactions to this.
Oh wait, here's one already:

So Samuel Jackson's supposed to be a right-winger? Or does his character object to interracial relationships on Black Nationalist grounds?
This movie looks like it might be interesting.
Or it might be crap.
The film better be good for Labute's sake. He really needs to restore his credibility after that Wicker Man remake.
sam jackson as george jefferson in zebras on a plane
Awesome! And Ron Glass, too! I can't wait. I hope it's well written, like Changing Lanes (stop laughing, I mean that) and it shows how things escalate and get out of hand. If it's just "Hey, Black people can be racist, too," what's the use?
Ugh, Neil Labute. He wrote Fat Pig. He just likes to wallow in the colon of human refuse. It will probably be his take on Black racism.
Kellybelle: a fellow Changing Lanes lover? Awesome. I just saw that movie because my friend was an extra, and I wound up loving it. Especially the final scene, some of the best acting Jackson has ever done.
The irony is, the friend wasn't in the film, at least not visibly. But it's all good: I'm kinda sorta in Annapolis, for all you Tyrese fans out there.
And seconded about LaBute. He thinks he's profound when he's being obvious.
And Ron Glass, too!
It's about time somebody put him to work.
Here's a cute "Barney Miller" outtake from 30 years ago.

Oh, damn! I thought he was dead. Sorry, Mr. Glass. )-:
"Lakeview Terrace" looks intriguing. Sam Jackson playing a villain? That's not typical is it?
"It also stars Kerry Washington and Patrick Wilson (the castratee in “Hard Candy”)"
Spoiler Alert for Hard Candy:
He doesn't actually get castrated.
Well, not in a LITERAL sense, he doesn't get castrated...
Glass has been off the radar for a while, but his involvement in Firefly and the movie spinoff Serenity gave him a whole new audience of Sci-Fi geeks that probably put him back on the radar.
Glass was one of the best things about Firefly, too.
does anyone but me think this is a bad movie? bad for race relations, bad for interracial couples, bad bad bad?
This was a better movie when it was named "Unlawful Entry" and/or "Pacific Heights."
UBM - you think they're releasing this cautionary tale of how blacks in power abuse said power right before the election on purpose?

Hee. I hear you, Elwood. Homeowner's paranoia... the ultimate materialist horror.

Yer joking, right? Good one!
Yer joking, right? Good one!
It started out as a joke, but the more I thought about it and gave sinister motives to the corporate fatcat studio owners...I'm not sure any more.
All of this being said, I'll watch Sam Jackson fuck with anyone, because he does it so well.
"Well, not in a LITERAL sense, he doesn't get castrated..."
Now wait a minute... his character got a testicle cut off, right? Does the fact that it was one instead of two mean it wasn't a castration?

Well, we'll have to see, Maria. But I've got no problem with a black racist villain. The most important question for a story, far as I'm concerned, is: Does it tell the truth about human beings?
David: IIRC, he lifts up the icepack, checks, and discovers she was lying and she didn't cut one of his balls off. I don't think it's immediately clear.
In any case, by the end of the film, he might as well be castrato, given how thoroughly he's been demolished.
Although I did check, and cutting both balls off results in the full definition of being castrated, not just one.
Isn't it amazing what cinema can teach us?
well...i would have a problem with a white racist villain. or a hero. hard to say what the portrayal is...some will see him as a hero. either way, if the tables were turned i'd wouldn't promote such a vehicle.
does jackson get taken down?
i mean, i'd like some depth. i'm thinking of the character of the racist cop that matt dillon played in crash. he redeemed himself by saving that woman's life.
maybe i am asking too much. could be just a stupid action flick...one dimensional.
i have stopped supporting will smith, tho, since he came out of the closet.
^ Came out of the closet as what?
IIRC, he lifts up the icepack, checks, and discovers she was lying and she didn't cut one of his balls off.
Word? I stopped watching after the infamous "castration" scene.
You mean the filmmakers wimped out? She didn't really nut him? That sucks.
a scientologist.
Hey there1
I didn't get the plot...it sounded just too petty to be worth a movie ticket...
By the way...do brothas REALLY get psycho like that when seeing a white man and a sista together?? *LOL*
If so, I need to watch my back because the white dudes loooove to try and get to Lisa....for reasons I shall never EVER quite figure out...
Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!
Lisa
About the only thing that interested me was Ron Glass. Glad to know that he's working.
This flick seems too creepy for me. I don't like movies when the horror is something that could actually happen. Monsters don't scare me, but crazy neighbors do.
Did you see the blurb on Boing Boing about the crazy old ladies in Pasadena who fed thousands of rats, a la Willard? That's my idea of a real horror movie.
^ I picked that up in the free alternative paper, the LA Weekly, but haven't had a chance to read it yet.
Actually this is based on Henry vs. Hamilton, they have fictionalized it, but it is obviously the source material and some of the dialogue is straight out of court transcripts I am told.
Unlawful Entry, Enough, Paparazzi, Internal Affairs I have seen these movies throughout the years and I don't want to cast aspersions but isn't Keri Washington like Thandie Newton is becoming the go-to American actress to the black spouse of the white husband, I hope she does not get typecasted in these roles that could be a career killer. Oh well, at least black men can be dangerous, sexist, violent racists in the movies.
SLJ might get an oscar nod if the movie is good if it's bad another round and studies of black male sterotypes.
Maria,
You thought the cop played by matt dillon in Crash showed depth??? That was a bit of the most contrived, manipulative, simplistic cinema I've ever watched in my life: "Cop is racist, but, no, look!: By sheer coincidence he feels up a woman in the morning and saves that same woman from a burning car in the evening. See! He's not so bad." Hollywood doesn't do deep well. it comes off all... shallow.
Not to mention self-congratulatory and unrealistic.
