A powerful Democrat... a shameful sex scandal... (Remind you of anything?)

It’s as if Jehovah Himself is fed up with Team Hillary’s bullshit.

Because what happened today is like a bucket of ice-water dumped over Sen. Clinton’s head. It will shut down the Clinton campaign’s Obama-bashing apparatus for the rest of this week... at minimum.

All eyes are now on New York’s Gov. Eliot Spitzer... whoremonger.

What does Spitzer’s fondness for high-priced call girls have to do with Hillary Clinton?

Two things. Number one: Gov. Spitzer is a “superdelegate” committed to Hillary. If he resigns the governorship in disgrace... no more superdelegate he. (And you know how important these superdelegates are to Sen. Clinton’s convention strategy.)

Number two: From what I see on cable news, the talking heads aren’t shy about saying that Eliot Spitzer’s shame is reminiscent of President Clinton’s “Oral Office” shenanigans with Monica Lewinsky. The self-destructive impulse... the uncontrolled sex drive... the arrogance of power...

All of a sudden, Bill Clinton’s disgrace is pushed back into the news cycle.

Hillary has had nothing to say publicly about the downfall of her ally, Gov. Spitzer. But the next time she gets in front of reporters, you can bet she’s gonna be bombarded with questions about it.

And there’s no way she can spin this to make Barack Obama look bad.

UPDATE (03/10/08): If Spitzer does resign, a black man – Lt. Gov. David A. Paterson – will become governor of New York. Paterson is already a superdelegate, and he endorsed Hillary last May.

I first heard about the Spitzer sex scandal on Olberman, but I didn't know he was also a superdelegate for Hillary. This makes this news even sweeter, as sweet as chocalate puddin. And whats ironic about this incident is that Spitzer was a attorney prior to being NY governor that crusaded against corruption within the state government and got elected on that platform, and for him to be the customer to a prostitution ring, well, hypocrites do as hypocrites see.

^ The fact that he was a prosecutor -- and had prosecuted prostitution rings! -- will do him in.

Spitzer would've been better off getting blowjobs from a state-house intern.

I was laughing while seeing the pics of all the politicians that have been caught in sex scandals. They hit on Bill's "finger of shame" and it was delightful.

I do feel bad for Spitzer's wife but man, these women who stand up there by their cheating men puzzle me. At the least, I would be secluded on a beach while the husband takes the heat.

I'm happy for David Patterson.

As for Client #9, I don't think I've ever seen him (or any similar positioned politician) sweat like that. This must have been fresh news to him. The media initially announced that his press conference might include a resignation. It's now thought that he wants to use resignation as a negotiation tool. To lighten the charges up a bit.

It just boggles the mind. How does someone at that level of scrutiny think they're not gonna get caught? Unless getting caught was the point and Spitzer's working out some kind of personal guilt issues.

Anyway, the funniest thing I read somewhere is someone fantasizing that after Hillary chews him out, she hands the phone to Bill and stomp off in huff, "Here, *you* explain it to him," and Bill whispers in the phone, "Dude...you had to pay for it?"

Hey, don't underestimate the pull of $3,200 per night hos. By the way, the prostitution ring was headed by a 62 year old man with a foreign passport. Now what if Spitzer had made it to the Presidency?

I'm lmao at these shenanigans. I was living in New York when Spitzer was trying to make a name for himself to run for Gov. I used to equate it to the Spanish Crusades--he was freakin' everywhere, shutting folks down daily...it was almost comedy. He made Carcetti from The Wire look like Ghandi.

I'm sure he made more than a few enemies during that time, and look where it landed him? Sweet.

I meant Spanish Inquisitions :-)

Whoremonger??? The scarlet "W" for Spitzie! Actually, I'll be happy if just resigns posthaste.

Hey, David "Diaper Boy" Vitter is still in the Senate...maybe if Spitzer just whines, appears contrite and says God forgave him, then he's cool.

Worked for Larry "wide stance" Craig as well.

But somebody help me -- $5500 an hour? I mean, like what in the cosmos is worth that?

When I first heard this news yesterday they were saying he was going to resign but he thought about it and decided against it. I don't believe he will resign. He is a superdelegate for Hillary.

With all due respect and the proper amount of shade..."Who wouldn't?"

UBM,

Marion Jones goes to jail for lying and check fraud and a former prosecutor and now Governor will resign and never serve a day in jail.

Kwame Kilpatrick is still in office and Christine Beatty was forced to resign.

There has to be some irony in this somewhere...

First - for the women standing by "their man"...i wish someone would interview them and ask why and what's the point. Even if you decide to stay with the man, must you go and stand next to him at the press conference and look like you swallowed your face?

Second, here's an important tid-bit missing from the discussion...a bit on David Patterson, Lt. Gov. and the now new governor of New York for at least three years - once old Spitzie rsigns. Patterson cut his teeth working out of Harlem, African American with a disability (blind) and will be among only 4 (If i recall correctly) black governors in the history of the United States. And, could be the first visually impaired governor (have to check that too). Now how do you like them apples

Last night on the news they reported he paid $4500 for 4 hours (that man does not look like a man that can go for 4 hours).

This afternoon I heard that Dr. Laura went on the Today Show and said that if your man cheats the woman should bear some responsibility because she's not meeting his needs (although if his needs included new and different and 25 and hot it seems like that would limit the needs meeting abilities).

I also saw a clip of Hillary responding to a question about Spitzer caught cheating with a hooker. She said that her thoughts were with his family and it kind of looked like she was reliving the awfulness of that humiliation... but she could have just been imagining how it was all going to play out in the press.

I forget - did she stand on a dais behind Bill as he did mea culpas for Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky?

I'm with lolo - leave him standing up there to take the heat. My beach would include cocktails and a cabana boy.

I like this commentary on the situation:

Excuse me for being sooo naive, but WHAT IN THE WORLD does a guy get for $4,300 - $5,000 in an hour worth risking it all??? Does this involve traveling and handling costs? Is the hotel room included? Is 70% hush money. Can Master Card break this down in their next commercial? I have to admit, I'm extremely curious because aside from being very young, the chicks'pics on that Emperor's website they flash weren't that cute. If anyone replies to this, please keep the language clinical. I'll look up the euphemisms off line.

Spitzer is an ass. He obviously enjoyed living on the edge and probably had some addiction to doing so. I want to know if he used his own money, or Albany's money?

It bothers me that people keep bringing up Bill Clinton's infidelity so that Hillary can relive this all over again. She wasn't behind him on a podium when he confessed he had been unfaithful. Remember the family walking to the Presidential Helicopter and Hillary was holding Chelsea's hand, not Bill's and she had sunglasses on to cover her eyes. You can say all you want about her reasons for staying with her husband, but I have never walked in her shoes regarding her marriage so the decisions about her marriage are hers alone to make.

Spitzer just reinforced to me that when some men find themselves in a position of power, their lower halves take full advantage of their clout.

Another reason to want a woman in the White House, right? ;-)

Now I understand why Paterson would be a Hillary super delegate up to this point; he basically had to defer to the person who had selected him to run as Lt.Governor. Hillary also happens to be the senator from his home state (cough, cough, carpetbagger, cough, cough).

Now that he's governor, does he have the chance to reconsider?

Plus wouldn't he be in the unique position to play the 'Well, shit, nobody told me Obama was black.' card?

You know, I wimped out on signing it due to not knowing how a joke written by a sighted white guy would fly. Glad to see you found it funny.
