Casey Wilson goes bye-bye

Comedy blogger Sean McCarthy broke the news yesterday that “Saturday Night Live” has fired Casey Wilson and Michaela Watkins.

I always liked Casey Wilson. (Although I see on the internets that many people do not.)

Reminds me to post this “Funny or Die” video that Casey made a few months ago. Sad to watch now. Oh well...

Yah, I'm sad to see her go. She was hot in that 'not-so-hot' kinda way. Me luvs the curves. And in this video you got to see her really go all out, I don't think SNL ever let her do that really.

She was horrible in Julie/Julia, relegated to a 2-dimensional so-fast-you'll-miss-it. Maybe she'll get better work now.

I like and will miss her too...but what I'm really missing are some black women on SN, but all I can do about that is dare to dream.

I'd settle for a Latina.

I'm gonna miss Casey myself. Not that she was all that funny, but DAMN was she eye candy for a brother. That Funny or Die clip might be the funniest thing she ever did.

daughterofthedream mentioned black women on the show...how about some funny blacks PERIOD?! Come on, man! They can't find ONE funny Negro in New York? Save for his "just okay" Bill Cosby, Kenan Thompson is the worst impressionist the show ever had. I'm starting to think maybe Lorne Michaels just doesn't find people of color funny.

You know what, junebug? I used to wonder about that too. For years the back of the bus at "SNL" was populated by the likes of Jerry Minor, Dean Edwards and Finesse Mitchell. These were nothing cats.

How come Lorne never discovered a David Alan Grier, Phil LaMarr or Wayne Brady?

Here's who Lorne DID have: Garrett Morris (brilliant in Cooley High, then infamously played a monkey in his last season on SNL, during which he was on a drug binge), Chris Rock (who was buried when he wasn't doing Nat X; hell, they even parodied the fact on In Living Color...a show HE LATER JOINED!), and Damon Wayans (whom he fired for ad-libbing...WTF?!). Okay, Tim Meadows had his own movie...then became a sidekick on the freaking Bill Engvall Show, for God's sake!

Sad that the only black performer that became a breakout star on the actual show was Eddie. And shit, that's going on 30 years now!!! It's got to be something with Lorne. Probably not intentionally, either. Maybe that's just his way. And I think it's killing the show. When was the last time SNL was water cooler talk? The two seasons of Chappelle were some of the most groundbreaking shit I had seen since the Chevy Chase-Richard Pryor-word association skit back in the day. Is Lazy Sunday on the same level as Clayton Bigby? Most people would probably say no.

Funny that you mentioned Jerry Minor; back in '93, I auditioned to be in the cast of the Second City in Detroit (the first). That nigga took my spot! Then he went to SNL and vanished into obscurity. Way to live the dream, Jerry! Sorry from the long, bitter rant UBM. Oh, and good luck with 'Treme.

Worth noting that Eddie Murphy wasn't hired by Lorne Michaels. If I recall correctly, a Jean D-something ran the show that year. 1980, which wasn't a good year for the show (or her), but good for Murphy and Joe Piscipo (sp?). If Michael's was there, I wonder if Murphy would'a got hired at all. On the other hand neither would Charlie Rocket (I hated that guy, till he ended up on Moonlighting).

The diversity of MadTV was one of the reasons I kinda liked it even though it was ridiculous. SNL is in no way a real representation of New York or America...not only is there an obvious lack of blacks on the show but latinas, asians, etc. too.

Wait a sec, did everyone just forget Tracey Morgan? Or does he not count somehow?

Yes. And you ruined it!

;^)

LOL! UBM, you a fool! Besides, when was the last time anybody paid $10.50 to see a Tracey Morgan movie?

Tracy Morgan didn't get that much airtime on SNL, though he was there for a long time. 30 Rock makes him look like a bigger SNL star than he was.

Hey Junebug, fuck you I starred in a sitcom in 2007 and still work constantly. I took my spot and still have it. Where are you? Say hi to Finesse and Dean in obscurity-ville. I've always wondered why people don't really look at SNL's marginalization of black people. Lorne was not there when Eddie was there so obviously it comes from the top. Fuck that show. I refused to do the dumb shit, like wear a dress or talk stupid, which i was directly told by a producer that's what it takes for a black guy to be successful on the show. Also told the reason Maya was successful was because of her racial ambiguity. Again I say, "Fuck that show", as i get ready to go to 30 rock to watch the season premiere.

^ Wow. Did Jerry Minor actually comment on this thread??

I would prefer to think not.
