Coming attraction: ‘Passing Strange’

A year and a half ago, I blogged about a Broadway musical called “Passing Strange,” created by the singer/songwriter Stew.

Spike Lee has made a documentary movie of “Passing Strange.” It’ll be in theaters on August 21. And next year it will air on PBS.

Here’s the trailer. It sure looks interesting. (Hat-tip: Shadow and Act.)

it's about time! looking forward to this one, though I wouldn't mind also seeing a version where the action is opened up and off stage, a la the film version of "Rent".

Help UBM! I want to love it, but... Part of the problem is I'm not a huge musical theater fan and well why is this the play recorded? I'm sure they are all great actors, but Spike were is the film?

^ He did a similar thing with "A Huey P. Newton Story" a few years ago. (I saw that live; didn't see the TV version.)

I must say, this "Passing Strange" trailer has an exciting visual pop.

Thank you. I worry sometimes that I have arrested development when it comes to art. I did start listening to KCRW and I feel really cool when people see me listening to it. :)

Nice trailer!

I remember when Lee was working on this. That didn't take long. I hope to catch it.

Thanks for posting.
