Playlist: Three more non-singin’-ass actors

Did you know that Terrence Howard – talented actor and gossip-bait – has a music CD out? You probably did.

But did you know that two other stars of the movie “Iron Man” have released albums? Yep. Robert Downey, Jr.’s came out in 2004. Jeff Bridges put one out in 2000.

You know what that means. Time to stream some more songs by actors acting like they can sing. (Previous playlists in this series are here and here.)

Click the titles below to listen on my Vox blog. (And guess who’s singing along with Jeff Bridges on the chorus?)

1. “Mr. Johnson’s Lawn” – Terrence Howard

2. “Broken” – Robert Downey, Jr.

3. “She Lay Her Whip Down” – Jeff Bridges

Now, just to keep the “Iron Man” vibe flowing... here’s Gwyneth Paltrow singing “Bette Davis Eyes.” (And she can sing!)

Hi there!

I know absolutely NOTHING about Terrance Howard...

I didn't know that Robert Downey, Jr. had an album out! I really loooved him in Charlie Chapin. I hope he stays sober because he is an extraordinary actor and will be a legend in his industry if he doesn't self-destruct.

Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

the song titles alone brought a chill, so didn't dare to tread. and, shamefully, i saw gwyneth and huey on the big screen. ah, youth.

my all time favorite actor trying to tune his vocals is richard harris's rendition of "macarther park." i believe wm. shatner also had a version of the tune. still can't quite understand who told donna summers it would be something to record...how exactly does a cake melt in the rain?

How 'bout the Miami Vice duo? Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, they fired their shot didn't they? They Qualify for this category in my book. I'll have to go back and review the vocals on "It's hard out there for a pimp" from Hustle and flow. Re: Terrence Howard. I couldn't stop laughing when I listened to Mr. Johnson's lawn. Nice post!

I was getting into that Terrence Howard track....until he started singing.

Interesting about Gwyneth Paltrow. I actually really liked her duet with Huey Lewis on a cover of Smoey Robinson's "Crusing", from that Duets movie they made years ago...lol

Yikes Terrence Howard singing.

Just yikes.

Terrence Howard - The title alone was a clue, how stupid. I laughed so hard that tears were running down my face! How much did this cost to salve his ego? Is that the cost to get him to star is some movie?

The Robert Downey tune isn't bad. It sounds like the B side to some British rocker, like Sting on an off day.

And Jeff Bridges, well, he's just a drunk white boy at beer joint trying to sound like Van Morrison is backing him up.

Zooey Deschanel has an album out. She's part of a duet called She&Him. The album is okay, a couple of very pretty songs, but Deshanel's voice, IMHO, is intoxicating.

Actually, I forgot to mention who's backing up Jeff Bridges vocally on this cut: Michael McDonald! (The Doobie Brothers one... not the MADtv one.)

Oh dang! My bad!

In response to "Hot Breakfast", Zooey Deshanel sings in "Elf" if you haven't watched that. i said to myself "wow, she's got good pitch."

Terrance must have really been drinking the kool-aid from Hustle and Flow to think that he could really rhyme, let alone combine it in a singing style. Sounds like a bad impression of Chester Cheetah. Not cute, at all!

The pain. The tears. I still can't stop laughing.

Surprisingly enough, Downey Jr. can sing. The song sounds crappy because of poor production. Go figure. It just goes to show you that money can't buy everything. Bridges, however, needs someone to lay their whip down across his behind for even attempting that. LOL
