Live-blogging the final debate

Are you expecting drama? I’m expecting drama. Unless McCain already knows he’s defeated. In which case, that’ll be worth talking about too.

9:06 p.m. (Eastern Time): Anybody notice a tremor or tremble in John McCain’s left hand? What’s that about? ...

9:13 p.m.: Well... Joe the Plumber is getting laid tonight, I bet. ...

9:25 p.m.: One third of the way in, and it looks like Obama has McCain playing defense. Amazing. ...

9:35 p.m.: Obama just opened the door for McCain to talk about the “pals around with terrorists” issue. And what does McCain do? He defends his own campaign crowds. I think Sean Hannity just vomited in his mouth a little bit. Right-wing radio talkers have been waiting for... oh, wait a minute...

9:37 p.m.: Well, I spoke too soon. McCain just threw a jab about ACORN and Bill Ayers. A weak jab. And Obama has his answer at the ready. Now, will McCain keep pushing it? ...

9:41 p.m.: Awww shit. I bet Bob Schieffer catches hell tomorrow from the talk-radio jackals for that question about vice presidential candidates. It plays to a huge McCain weakness. ...

9:46 p.m.: Nice to hear the word “cockamamie” in a presidential debate. Talk about old school. You go, McCain! ...

9:56 p.m.: The clock is becoming a factor. McCain’s got nothing... nothing! ...

10:00 p.m.: Oh for fuck’s sake... Joe the Plumber again?? Right-wingers are gonna destroy McCain tomorrow. You watch. ...

10:25 p.m.: Sounds like McCain is going hard for the autistic vote. ...

11:59 p.m.: When there are no donuts, I will eat an apple. And when there’s no cable TV, I will watch PBS.

Just got through watching the post-debate analysis on “Charlie Rose.” I feel smarter than I was an hour ago. And all those smart analysts on PBS agree: Obama has got a lock on this election.

Good night, all. Sweet dreams are made of this.

after complaints from the last debate that McCain never looked at Obama, he's now doing the zombie-stare as Obama talks.

Yo... John's eyes are HUGE tonight.

McCain's still doing the zombie stare.

Obama missed an opportunity to wish Cheney well after today's heart scare. It would also remind people who fragile life is and scare the hell out of them thinking about a President Palin (mccain is 5 years older than Cheney)

I really can't believe the innocent act McCain is trying to pull. Wasn't it his running mate that keeps calling Obama a terrorist.

That innocent act is so laughable...anyone can see through it. It's one of the reasons he's losing...so obviously disingenuous.

I wish that CNN was breaking down the dials by Repub/dem/ind instead of by men/women, it would be more clear.

Speaking of which, it's not a "perception analyzer", it's a f**king dial for god's sake.

Did McCain just CORRECT Bob Scheiffer on "climate control"? Looked like Bob wanted to let him taste the back of his hand after that...

Invisible Woman said...

Oh no he didn't! Did he just chide Obama for not traveling to Columbia? This from a man with a certain lipstick wearing running mate that just recently received their first passport?

It just writes itself...

Joe the Plumber, again?! Just call in Mario and Luigi at this point.

7:15: Adopted child? Like the brown one the McCains hide in the basement?

Now that's compassion!

I thought McCain started off pretty strong and lost it the moment they started in with the Bill Ayers stuff. Over all this was his best debate performance, though.
The deep breath thing puzzles me, though. I think it's a trick. He can keep smiling as long as he's holding his breath.

Also, his "wha?, excuse me?" when Obama informed him there'd be no fine for Joe the Plummer made me laugh.

What was up with McCain's eyes? He kept blinking them. I thought he was transmitting a secret message.

Ever seen the Manchurian Candidate (the original, not the Denzel version)? Maybe he was receiving his "instructions".

Some of the pundits were criticizing McCain for the eyerolls and other expressions of contempt for Obama. Me, I was pissed when he basically discounted the life of the mother when discussing his stance on abortion. John "My wife's a cunt" McCain *hates* women. Fuck him!

I'm watching it online now. What's up with McCain's eye blinking? Did he not put in enough eye drops? It's downright distracting and a bit scary.

Thanks for the play-by-play UBM.

I tuned out early. But, I thought I heard McCain make a reference to a fateful day in Dallas in 1963. Was he trying to imply something? (Maybe I'm just being sensitive.)

Definitely just caught this online, and McCain was bring very distracting.
All of the blinking, eye rolls, and cutting off both Bob and Obama...what?

OMG! I watched the post-debate convo on PBS too, and I also found it to be more intellectual, more enlightening than anything Ive seen on other networks (bearing in mind I dont have cable). I truly hope the O man wins. If he doesnt, if there's any evidence of voter fraud/tampering/the shennanigans we've seen in the past...I just might be inclined to riot.

Looks to me, Lola, like the right-wingers are grabbing the vote-fraud issue for their own, laying the groundwork to invalidate an Obama victory (not legally, but politically). That's what the ACORN thing is about.
