Goofing on Sarah (cont.)

I wonder if this is good or bad for Fey's career.

If Palin wins, Fey's will be called on to do the impression for the next four to eight years. The dangers of typecasting and all that.

Maybe she can get some decent mileage out of it on 30 Rock. Short interludes of her as Palin doing interviews, making speeches, TV ads, etc.

I'm still working on my Barak. It isn't too bad.

For you good folks in the real world, yes, a Palin win would be a disaster.

For those of us in the floating world, COMEDY GOLD!

(When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail.)

And look on the bright side, the world's most famous Baby Daddy is a white dude!

you mistakenly assume that die fuhrerin has a sense of humor and would permit subversive mockery...,

odocoileus said...

She'll have to allow mockery.

The establishment will only let her win because they know they can control her.

What do want to bet that 5 colleges in 6 years is the result of hard partying, promiscuous sex, and an abortion or two?

I know you went to MIT, where white kids are a good deal more studious than at State U's. I went to an upper Midwest State U, and I can tell you, drunken casual sex was the principal form of recreation.

The *Establishment* is not a unitary entity, and, it has long had to deal with significant and institutionalized anti-establishment factions, particularly from the far right.

The Establishment HATES dominionism adn here-to-date has been able to manipulate and control most of these elements.

Die Fuhrerin represents a fairly stark departure from that governance homeostasis. It's not about her at all. Rather, it's about the factions that have made it possible for something as simple and talentless as she is to have a career in politics at all.

Die Fuhrerin is much more powerfully analogous to Hitler in 1930 than most folks care to admit. The condition of the U.S. economy is nearly precisely analogous to germany of that time.

It's not at all clear that if the Paling djinni gets out of its bottle, (i.e., if still further concessions must be made to the activist dominionist base) that the classic Establishment can cram her back into it.

I can just picture Palin in this.

Only in America.

Did somebody say "nude photos"??

If I'm following your reasoning, the Establishment, or substantial parts of it, are pulling for Barack.

The O man proved he could play ball back in Chi, so they shouldn't have any problems with him, though they normally don't like dealing with people who are as smart as they are - hence Georgie boy.

But I do kind of see your point. Economic collapse plus a Palin presidency equals, for us, pitch forks and burning crosses.

Bingo brah!!!

He's the Brookings Institute candidate, and if you'll follow the Brookings breadcrumbs back far enough, you'll find that they were at the origins of the Heritage Foundation and much else to boot. The old establishment plays both sides against the middle - always.

Anyway, I'm increasingly coming around to the genius of what David has instigated hereabouts. CLEARLY the most devastating attack launched to date against Gov. Paling has been Tina Fey's spot on personification of her exceptional vacuousness.

If talented folks maintain that assault in the mainstream, she'll be dead in the water before mid-October.

Economic collapse plus a Palin presidency equals, for us, pitch forks and burning crosses.

Big time...., and now that the financial house of cards has begun its irrevocable tumble under Bush's watch, I no longer have ANY hesitation about throwing my unequivocal support behind Baraka.

You want genius, Craig, look to Rove: "Don't attack your opponent's weakness. Attack his strength."

By that principle, "goofing on Sarah" won't do any damage. It will amuse those of us who already think she's a ridiculous candidate for the vice presidency. But it'll roll right off the backs of those who embrace her and love her as "one of us."

The only thing that can turn off her base would be something that undercuts her strength... that is, her image as a white working-class hero and Moral Majoritarian.

For instance: secret abortion. Nude photos. Lesbian double life. Or something similar that a reporter will uncover.

Otherwise, I'm off Palin and onto McCain. Attack his strength. I'm all about the damage done to his mind, body and soul by 5 1/2 years of torture.

This was always the undercurrent of those stories about McCain's "temper." I wanna know if he's on pain meds. I wanna know if he was ever treated for PTSD.

I really doubt that's going anywhere. He has a number of years service since then without any serious evidence of damage to his mind or soul that I can see. That kind of attack is REALLY gonna piss off a lot of undecideds and people in the middle unless someone's got something hardcore.
I think as people get to know Palin they'll be disenchanted - unless they're equally disenchanted by Obama's supporters.
(Why do I get a msg "HTML: Tag is not closed" for Italics when I DID close it? I do not rule out the possibility that my question only indicates that I am an idiot).

I dunno... I think a secret lesbian life would only secretly tittilate the loins of the repressed religious right. There're a lot of freaks in those parking lot states - they hang out on adult friend finder in the pre-dawn and go get forgiven on Sunday.

They'd vote for that ticket and just not tell anyone about it.

David, please remain with Palin. To some small degree, you have contributed to the jump in polls they have enjoyed because knuckleheads like you were distracted for 3-4 weeks by her VP nomination. I thought I was reading the National Enquirer with all of the trash (pregnancy, etc.) you discussed here rather than anything of substance.

Sure, concentrate on any physical or emotional shortcomings McCain suffers as a result of incarceration and torture by our enemies. (Did I just say, 'incarceration and torture BY OUR ENEMIES???)

I bet you made fun of the little girl in class with the eyeglasses, the little boy with hearing aids or the child in braces from polio.

I am trying to remember what theater of war YOU participated in?

Well done, Vince. You want a President you can pity. "He's gonna protect us from the evil Muslims... but shhhhh, don't say anything about his 'flicted arms."

The War on Rats, motherfucker! I was infantry.
