Our foster son once did my wife and I a favor by getting us front row center seats to see Sandra. She was great, but I confess, I was scared shitless that she was gonna eat me alive. As if ...
Uh,you don't have to be gay at all. Or you can be VERY gay! But putting Sandra in a box does her a disservice,I feel. She is usually 'on point',but really shines when she just BLOWS,letting the mood of the moment dictate where her riff is gonna go. And thanks for the video of Carlin, another cat who refused to stay in the 'pothead humor' box of his early years. A unique take on our society, someone with a big heart underneath all that gruff reality.
When she's on she's on, but there does always seem to be the simmering rage fueling the humor that makes her seem live a woman on the verge...
...she's always been one to trot her nipples out in public but I think having a baby made them much bigger and darker and in this outfit, terribly distracting.
^ Along with the rage, quirkychick, is a desperate fear of aging... as displayed in this clip. Not knocking her for that; that's a universal emotion. But she translates it more into narcissistic attitudinizing than into art.
Or at least that's the vibe I started to pick up around 1990... when she was rolling with Madonna and coming on "The Arsenio Hall Show" throwing black gay slang around.
What I'll always like about her is: She always gives credit to Paul Mooney for launching her career. (He put her in the cast of "The Richard Pryor Show.") She is grateful and loyal to him for that.

Yeah, she's in "Paul Mooney: Know Your History - Jesus Was Black ... So Was Cleopatra" singing his praises.

^ I kinda wish I had seen her live... but back in the mid-'80s. Before she started trippin'.
veI was going to say that you have to be gay and living in 1985 to think Sandra Bernhardt is the shit - but you basically beat me to it.
Did she say something? I was too hypnotized by her enormous nipples to hear.
^ Whoa. I hadn't noticed. Hello dere!

^ I saw that on cable a few months ago, Bklyn6. That or some other Mooney special with her in it.
Don't forget her turn as a crazy chick in The King of Comedy. Some folks find that kookoo vibe red hot.
