I like women who do their thing beyond the boundaries of commercial R&B, hip-hop and dance music. Let me shine a light on three such artists:
1. “Sexy Suzy on a Sunday” – Tiombe Lockhart
Down with the Platinum Pied Pipers production crew, Brooklyn-based Tiombe Lockhart likes to lay her voice over languorous, downtempo grooves. This track is from “The Tiombe Lockhart Bootleg #1,” which is downloadable from eMusic.
2. “Ocean” – Tamar-kali
I hereby thank one of my readers – daughterofthedream – for pointing me to Tamar-kali, another Brooklyn mover. She comes out of the underground rock scene, but Tamar-kali’s vocal chops are superbly suited to jazz, soul or anything else she’d ever want to do.
This track is from the EP “Geechee Goddess Hardcore Warrior Soul,” which is downloadable from iTunes and Amazon.
3. “Lo Mein” – Georgia Ann Muldrow
L.A.-based Georgia Anne Muldrow combines the visual stylistics of early-’70s conscious soul music and the sonic sensibilities of underground hip-hop. (Like Tiombe, she has worked with Platinum Pied Pipers.)
This track is from the EP “Worthnothings,” which is downloadable from iTunes, eMusic and Amazon.

Now those be some real sistas. Any other photos we can check out?
BTW, I shot you an email. Finally got around to a Boneheads piece.
^ Hilarious, DeAngelo. Here's the link.
Hope there's more down the road.
Clicked on the Tamar-kali link. She's hosting "The Queens Daughters LaBelle Tribute" on Saturday. Okay, I don't know who the Daughters are but a Labelle tribute can't be a bad thing.
^ Whoa... I bet she could burn the house down with some Labelle.
