One thing that was so startling about “Hill Street” back then was its frank acknowledgement of racial tension as a fact of life in American cities. We’re talking about 1981, when shows like “Fantasy Island,” “Dynasty” and “The Dukes of Hazard” were big hits.

^ That reminds me, Rambler... Kiel Martin once played a black guy passing for white... in the blaxploitation movie "Trick Baby." It's out on DVD.
I never did see it, but just ordered it from Amazon.
Just wondering, UBM, do you know if the writers of these shows are getting paid for these?
