Tonight: Black bloggers on Hillary

Tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern (6 p.m. Pacific)... Afronerd hosts a black bloggers’ summit on Afronerd Radio, discussing the Clinton campaign’s “kitchen-sink” strategy against Barack Obama.

Here’s the number to call if you want to participate: 646-915-9620.

I’ll be calling in. Michael Fisher says he’ll call in, too.

UPDATE (03/11/08): Wow... that was a start. The conversation went all over the place, but at least there are plenty of bloggers out here fired up to do something... to assert ourselves in this campaign, in opposition to the “kitchen-sink” assault tactics and bamboozlery of Team Hillary.

The participants – ring-led by Afronerd – were Michael Fisher, Eddie G. Griffin, That Girl Boo, Invisible Woman, Sergio, Submariner, Mrs. Grapevine, DeAngelo Starnes, and yours truly. (I may be leaving somebody out.)

Click the banner below and you can stream or download the entire 90-minute podcast.

nice discussion david. i listened to a rebroadcast later in the evening. there were so many of you on, it was hard to keep track of who was who. Did you get in there a couple times?

Glad you listened, Wanda. I spoke my peace early... mainly interested in what others had to say, because I'm not organization-minded. I don't know what kind of coordinated action is called for.

We never did get down to a plan of action, but I'm pumped that so many of us connected at one time in one place around a common purpose.

^ I'll be out of town, so I won't be able to call in.

It would be good to hear some other voices anyway. Spread it out some...

Although it was an interesting - and freewheeling - discussion, which I'm especially starved for since I'm so far away, I am disappointed that all of those intelligent minds couldn't come up with an action plan.

UBM, you say that you're not an organizer. Well, I am. Here is what I would like to have seen come out of the discussion:

An agreement from all the participating bloggers to post a coordinated message on all of their blogs by today. (Oops, too late. Can you get them to agree to get this launched on Friday, right after the next broadcast?)

This coordinated message would contain:

- A brief recap of the situation, i.e., why you are all outraged and why we should be outraged.

- A list of email addresses, phone numbers, etc. of people to whom readers should express their discontent. This list should include DNC officials, Ferraro, Clinton, Clinton's staff, Maggie Williams' home address, etc. (Okay, home addresses should be off limits, but I'd sure like to toss a few eggs at her car.)

- A sample email containing the coordinated message. Remember: Some of your readers don't always write as elegantly as you bloggers and may be intimidated by having to write a letter. Give them a little bit of help. Your readers can, of course, alter the example message.

- A reminder to keep the emails clean and civil.

Politicians need to know that we're unhappy. Sitting around grumbling about the situation won't get action. We need to express our outrage in a civil manner to the DNC and people involved with the candidates. The more complaints they receive, the more they likely they will be to act.

So, UBM, can you get your fellow bloggers to agree to a coordinated email attack?

I've already emailed Howard Dean. He was here in Geneva before Super Tuesday and I had the opportunity to meet him. I was impressed by how he was striving to stay neutral. In my email to him today, however, I asked him to take a stand and take Ferarro out to the woodshed for a very public spanking.

Gov. Dean can be contacted through:

http://www.democrats.org/page/s/contact

The DNC phone # is: 202-863-8000.

That should get you started.

Good luck!

^ Thank you, GenevaGirl. We need you here in the States!

Funny how sisters are like, "What's the action plan?," while us dudes stand around talking the talk and jerkin' our egos off.

I wasn't kidding when I said I'm not organization-minded. But let's see what happens in the coming days... Especially if Team Hillary throws another fistful of mud.

dave, earlier this evening, I actually shot you and afronerd an email suggesting a pre-mailed agenda prior to the summit. Now that I've read genevagirl's suggestions, I think they are dope and would help foster an even more constructive discussion. Maybe you could pass them along afronerd.

^ Done. Thanks, DeAng.

D'Angelo, thanks for the compliment! I've in fact emailed them to AfroNerd.

I can't call in to express my opinion. With the time change it's 4:00 a.m. for me! Feel free to put forth my ideas.
