MBP of the Week: WireImage.com

This photo was posted yesterday on WireImage.com.

The original caption said: “NBA player Arron Afflalo and tennis player Serena Williams arrive at the LA Stars Celebrity All Star Charity Weekend.”

Nuh-uh. Wrong black man. That lucky young brother is actually Jackie Long, an actor and reportedly Serena’s new boyfriend.

WireImage corrected the error. But not before one of my sharp-eyed readers, M.P., pointed it out to me. Thanks, M.P.

Oh, snap. Here's one I've had for a while. It's of Venus, Serena and director Brett Ratner. However, Venus is misID'd as "Ya Ya". Yaya DaCosta was a contestant on America's Next Top Model a few cycles ago. I watch ANTM so when I saw this error I was like, "WTF? That's Venus!"

I kept the picture because I thought I would write a note to 25 Hours Magazine (it came as a supplement in the Sunday newspaper). I never got around to it, though.

If you look along the right edge you'll see a WireImage credit.

Do they ALWAYS misidentify black people?

That's a great one, Jena6. I would've thought it was impossible to misidentify Venus when she's in the same picture as Serena... but I've seen a bunch of wild stuff since I began cataloguing Misidentified Black People.

What gets me is that Jackie Long isn't a big guy (at least next to Serena) --- maybe 5'9" at most. Aaron Afflalo is 6'5" and would have to bend down to be at face level in that shot. I wonder if Matt Leinart and Nick Lachey, buddies with a similar height difference, have ever been mistaken for one another in photos.
