Tuesday 12-inch Flashback: ‘He’s the Greatest Dancer’

I don’t think the Nile Rodgers/Bernard Edwards side projects stand up as well as those old Chic hits. This one just sounds old to me.

This is one of those songs that makes me want to roller skate.

Come on UBM! This one, We Are Family, Upside Down and I'm Coming Out by Diana Ross are nice tracks that compliment the stuff they did as Chic.

What are you talking about? This is one of my favorite songs from Sister Sledge!

People talk about the importance of the beat, but the best disco songs also always had a great melody, or something imaginative in the lyrics, or something else that pushed it up out of the ordinary. I'm with you -- this is a minor effort, which just goes to show that nobody's perfect, since so much of their work was great.

I think the side projects are stronger than the Chic stuff. LOST IN MUSIC is a great song. COMING OUT by Diana Ross is classic. WE ARE FAMILY is inescapable, as much as you might try.

And what about Nile's work with Bowie, or Bernard's work with Power Station?

Naw, UBM...you just GETTIN' old, bruh! This is my theme song, you know. Actually, "Players Ballin'" by the Ohio Players is my theme...then this.

Okay, I started some shit, then got too busy to follow through.

Seriously though, people... "I'm Coming Out" is NOT A GOOD SONG. Even latter-day Chic joints like "Rebels Are We" and "Stage Fright" are funkier. I'd rather even spin "Soup For One."

In my opinion, Nile and Bernard never did it any better than this right here. As exciting a record now as the day it was made.
