So yesterday I was in a security line at LAX Airport, and I recognized the brother a few places behind me: Lance Crouther, star of the film “Pootie Tang.”
Good thing “Pootie Tang” sucked. Otherwise I might’ve been tempted to yell, “Yo, Pootie! Maaan, that movie was da bomb!” Then I would’ve gotten snatched out of line and missed my flight.

I actually liked Pootie Tang. It's one of those awesomely bad movies. Although, I question your decision to call out Crouther. Either he appreciates that people have seen his work or it's the one thing that defines his career and an albatross around his neck.
Pootie Tang's one of my all time favorite movies, though I didn't care for the skits on the Chris Rock show.
I've never seen the movie. And I didn't get the skits. :?
Was the character some kind of inside joke?
Gotta say... I'm with the crowd that liked the movie. I totally got it! Once you learned how to decode the jokes, it was funny.
You should have shouted at him. (encoding the bomb part of course)
On second thought, if he had taken off his belt and assumed a defensive posture, you still would have missed your flight.
I saw Roy Jones Jr. in Australia last week... I have no pride- I yelled- ROY! And gave him a fist pump. He shouted What UP! back at me. You know how it is!
^ Dang... I hope Roy ain't down there trying to box kangaroos for money.
who are all these folks lovin' pootie tang? did i fall down the rabbit hole and not notice? lol

^ Ha!
LOL! I have a friend who loves that movie.
Worst Black Movies
3 Soul Plane
2 Anything by Tyler Perry
1 Pootie Tang
One can like one terrible movie, but that's the limit.
My vote goes to Soul Plane as the Best Worst Movie.
Does Pootie Tang qualify as Black film (coming from the often brilliant, but not Black, Louis C.K.)?
Cast aside, it's content has more in common with elements of madcap Asian cinema (classic 80s-90s Wong Jing, Anime, and the fun bits of the stuff coming from somewhat recent action films from Thailand).
Not that I've seen any indication that Mr CK is into any of that stuff. The spirit of the film is very similar.
Never seen any Tyler Perry or Soul Plane but the worst movie I've seen from a black film-maker recently is Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer.
I'm sooo out of it. Pootie Tang didn't cross the pond. So, what were the inside jokes?
Inside jokes? Dunno. It's just one of those cultural phenomenons that starts out way under-appreciated, but slowly grows into a legend. Like It's A Wonderful Life. Kinda.
In an interview yesterday, Chris Rock says he and Louis C.K. are contemplating a sequel. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/42620
But I doubt he is truly aware how well loved this movie is.
What I said about Fantastic Four was inaccurate. I had forgotten about Miracle at St. Anna.
An unreleased trailer cut by Louis C.K. himself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flqAvJxgKJQ
^Thanks for the link Edshugeo The GodMoor. LOL
I like this youtube comment: "the world today needs a hero like Pootie Tang to keep kids of drugs" [sic]
Yeah, might be a line from the movie.
But it's true.
Come on... Who didn't like Biggie Shorty? (Wanda Sykes)
I'm convinced that you tippy-ties never ever SAW the movie, because Pootie Tang is sheer brilliance! Every single thing in it is completely (and hilariously) ridiculous: from Trucky (JB Smooth) tending crops on a farm with Pootie while wearing dress clothes, to the seduction of Ireenie (Jennifer Coolidge), to the two greatest villians in cinematic history; the dirty pimp Dirty D and his sidekick Froggy, played by two actors who appeared on both Oz and The Wire, the great, incredibly underrated Reg E. Cathey and JD Williams. And don't get me started on Pootie's belt! Y'all need to re-watch this movie many tine-tanies.
@UBM,
Now was he working at the airport or in line to get on a plane?
^ Oh, snap!
Not only was he not working at the airport... he was flying first class from L.A. to New York City.
That in itself made me wonder.
I saw "Pootie Tang" twice, back around the time it came out. I am rather confident that my initial reactions were dead on target.
I seriously had no idea there was a devoted fan base for this flick.
I will not be seeing it again. But if they do a sequel, I'll check it out.
Sa-da-tay?
never saw it.
@ugly black john (boy it feels weird calling you that) i'm sure if you searched the lesser known lower budget black films you would think soul plane was like unforgiven in comparison.
@must love movies
Ever seen Ax 'Em? Quite possibly the worst movie of any kind ever made. Directed by the son of the former president of the NAACP (from one of his five baby's mammas).
