Playlist: Recently downloaded from eMusic

I’ve been a subscriber at the MP3 retail site since 2001. And for most of that time, eMusic did not offer major-label albums.

So I downloaded mainly jazz. Lots of ’50s and ’60s jazz. Several thousand tracks. If I wanted major-label stuff, I copped from iTunes or Amazon.

Well... in recent months eMusic has struck deals with Sony and Warner Bros. to distribute their back catalogues. Now I’ve been on a renewed binge of MP3 shopping.

Matter fact, I’m getting back into my funk bag. Hereupon, a few of my latest eMusic downloads for your streaming enjoyment:

1. “Loose Booty” (alternate version) – Sly & the Family Stone

2. “Heartbeat” – War

3. “Mind Over Matter (Pts. 1 & 2)” – The Isley Brothers

4. “Celestial Blues” – Andy Bey

5. “To Sir With Love” – Chaka Khan

"Mind Over Matter" bass line is really close to "One Nation Under A Groove". hmm...just as Ray Parker Jr's "For Those Who Like To Groove"

The one and only Sly Stone! Always great to hear from an original genius!

Heartbeat is for my money the best song off of the Why Can't We Be Friends album. And that's a rare lead vocal from Harold Brown, the drummer.

Indeed it is, papasean. Everybody was trying to sound like P-Funk in 1979.

Also, papasean, Ray Parker ripped off that "One Nation" bass line a second time... on "Still In the Groove."

Although I've never heard the alternate version, good call on "Loose Booty."

Does anyone have more Pts. 1 & 2's than the Isley Bros.? :-) (And just when I thought no man wore tighter pants than Chris Jasper, Ernie Isley gives him a run for his money.)
