A mystery solved

Remember this chick? Remember when she used to be on the Letterman show all the time, doing odd “comedy” bits with Dave?

Now I know why.

Her name is Stephanie Birkitt, and she used to be David Letterman’s assistant. Entertainment Weekly wrote about her in 2002. Headline: “David Letterman’s Girl Friday tells all.”

Yeah, well. Evidently not “all.”

Ms. Birkitt’s own hometown paper, the Manchester (New Hampshire) Union-Leader, profiled her in 2004:

“Birkitt, 29, has taken an unlikely road to success, and she’s as mystified as her family and friends back at home as to how she became a favorite of the late-night comedy host and a weekly regular on the CBS television show.”

“Mystified,” eh? “Favorite,” was she?

Turns out Letterman was boning her.

Get ready for the David Letterman sex scandal to last a good couple of weeks. Me, I don’t care who he slept with. But I do care what he put on the air.

Now it kinda seems like he was putting a joke over on his audience... making a TV celebrity out of the young employee he was banging.

Aw, snap! There goes that joke writing gig you were trying to get.

No great secret that comedians do what they do to get more tail. Nobody spends years banging it out in sh-hole clubs, having doors slammed in their faces, etc. just cause they like being funny.

Johnny Carson. Bill Cosby. Chris Rock. You seen the hot piece Conan's been running around with? Wayne Brady ain't no angel his ownself.

Even Ellen DeGeneres. Especially Ellen DeGeneres. Portia Di Rossi ain't tryin' to hang out with no broke ass chicks.

I can imagine Rosie O'Donnell sizing her self up in the mirror and saying, "If I EVER want to get laid again, I will have to become a famous comedienne."

Dag---et tu, David Letterman? What is it about the punanny that makes men crazy. Still, looking at her, she knew what she was doing.

Today, America lost a little bit of its innocence. Who will now step up and restore integrity to late-night talk show skits?

^ You funny, Doc.

But I wonder if Conan, Leno, Kimmel, etc. will be as merciless cracking on Dave as Dave was cracking on Bill Clinton?

I never thought I'd see the words "David Letterman" and "sex scandal" in the same sentence. Maybe he's packin'?

Or just rich.

He packin them benjamins.

From the wiki article:

She currently attends the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.

Dave ought to know, never have a law student as your side woman.

I'll give the girl some credit. Her bits on the show usually were pretty funny (to me at least).

Plus, if we're to believe the timeline that some publications are putting forward, then she continued appearing on the show even after the relationship ended.

I hope Letterman didn't pay her way through law school.

That's what they're saying over at Gawker. They've got her attending a different law school though/

^ Damn... for real? I was thinking about that old Chris Rock joke... about paying off so many chicks' student loans, he should have a building named after him at Howard U.

Actually, I thought she was kinda hot, early on. That was a while ago, though. Quite a while.

Judging by the Sarah Palin issue, Letterman controversies aren't good for Conan's ratings.

Last night's Late Night was great just from the awkwardness of Woody Harrelson (sp?) being the first guest after Dave addresses the issue to his audience (which was also pretty funny).

I don't care much, not because I don't like Letterman, but because I do.

A breach in ethics, but not one that has any impact on the world, his marriage(she knew),or even on the show.

^ You know what kinda pissed me off this morning? Mika Brzezinski on "Morning Joe." Here David Letterman is the apparent victim of a felony, and all she can do is continually call for CBS to conduct a "Human Resources" investigation into his love life.

Well, Letterman isn't an employee of CBS, for one thing. The other thing is... there's no indication that Letterman did anything wrong. No accusation of harassment, etc.

Mika also mentioned (once... in passing) that she worked at CBS with Halderman, the accused extortionist. WTF??

I don't care what two consenting adults do in the bedroom.

Is this the same chick he called "Monty"? She cracked me up sometimes.

Andrew said...

dez, yeah that's her. He also at times called her "Smitty" and "Gunther."

dez said...

Thanks, Andrew!

Sure would be nice if people focused on the fact that Dave was getting blackmailed than why he was getting blackmailed. Extortion is a serious crime. Having sex with a willing partner--not so much.

Five things I know, musicians play to get it, commedians joke to get it, writers write to get it, politicans run to get it, and the rest of us just listen to MJ's BEAT IT.

... writers write to get it...

Reminds me of an old Hollywood joke:

Heard the one about the Polish actress? She slept with the writer.

odocoileus said...

unless the writer is a showrunner.

but then, showrunners are usually too busy for extra curriculars.

Dave settled for "Monty"?
Ida done those "Will It Float" models or even the Grinder Sparks lady instead.
But who cares/
Good for Dave!
