Don't get me wrong, I partied to Rick plenty. And I don't deny his gigantic popularity. But as the bridge between the P.Funk and Prince eras, he was sandwich between two greater movements than his own.
But the musical and conceptual simplicity of Rick James (compared to both P.Funk and Prince) make him more appealing to many.

^ I never, ever felt him as an album artist. I've probably never listened to anything but the singles... even though I may own an LP or two.

"Mary Jane" was an anthem back in the day. It has to be the best. But let's not forget about "Bustin' Loose."
