Tuesday 12-inch Flashback: ‘You and I’

Anyone agree with me that Rick James’s first hit was his best hit?

ABSOLUTELY!

I will go so far and say the heresy that STREET SONGS was overrated.

^ I never, ever felt him as an album artist. I've probably never listened to anything but the singles... even though I may own an LP or two.

"Give It to Me, Baby" was hot, though.

Don't get me wrong, I partied to Rick plenty. And I don't deny his gigantic popularity. But as the bridge between the P.Funk and Prince eras, he was sandwich between two greater movements than his own.

But the musical and conceptual simplicity of Rick James (compared to both P.Funk and Prince) make him more appealing to many.

Yes! I love this friggin' joint!!!

Am I the only who thinks that his "Glow" video wanted to be "Purple Rain"?

Ho! Buffalo in the house! I dunno--it's between this one and "Mary Jane." Still, this is the jam.

Some people might say I'm infatuated --But I don't care
'Cause they really don't know
They'll never see of hear
The things I do with you
So far as I'm concerned
They all can go to *hell*

"Mary Jane" was an anthem back in the day. It has to be the best. But let's not forget about "Bustin' Loose."
