Remember when Tracey Ullman was funny?

Like, 20 frickin’ years ago? Man, I used to think she was brilliant.

Well... the season premiere of Ms. Ullman’s Showtime show, “State of the Union,” is up on YouTube. It’s embedded below.

Weak satire. Real weak. And her blackface character, Chanel Monticello (at 6:39), would not’ve cut the mustard on MADtv.

There is one funny sketch, though, at 20:24. I can’t explain it without ruining it.

on another note, no. one ladies' detective agency is really wonderful in so many ways.

"Cocaine is a helluva drug"... Rick James c/o Dave Chappelle.

Maria,

That is my 10 and 11 year olds' new fave show.

I don't remember how funny she was. I just remember The Tracey Ullman Show's funky theme song!

Wow. I made it to Heather McCartney throwing her leg like MTM. That was unfunny.

Maria--Loved No.1 Ladies Detective Agency. Jill Scott is awesome and representing for the big girls. UBM, the hustleman has No.1 ladies, if you don't have HBO.

Ha. That's a good sign, I suppose.

I'm back to my HBO... just haven't had the headspace.

I blame it on the dancing. Whichever director and/or producer told Ms. Ullman that it was funny to break out into song and dance at the end of almost every sketch unleashed an unfunny monster. I was hoping this season would be better. Sigh.

Same place as you are UBM re: #1. Have heard great things, but I want to be able to give it my full attention.

destruction--there's some pretty adult themes in the series. at the least, you should be watching it with the kids.
