Saturday morning cartoon

The first time I saw this clip (on justjudith’s blog), I cracked up laughing. Never knew MC Hammer used to have his own Saturday morning cartoon.

But that’s not the hilarious part. The lyrics to the theme song... oh lordy...

You see, when a television theme song literally explains the premise of the show – as with “Gilligan’s Island” or “The Brady Bunch” – that’s called an expository theme song.

“Hammerman” had the expository theme song to end all expository theme songs.

I vaguely remember this, but I don't remember if I ever watched.

What's funny is that I was on Yahoo just a second ago when I saw a story about J-Lo with this under the photo: "J.Lo seems hampered by her MC Hammer-inspired parachute pants." :-)

Anyway, I didn't realize there was an actual name for that type of theme song. Thanks for educating me.

likw, b6 thanks for the education!

I was a huge Hammer fan, so I used to watch this cartoon every Saturday! Listening to the theme as an adult, man, that song sucks it hard! It's horrible! Hammer hurt 'em really bad.

I definitely was aware of a "New Kids on the Block" cartoon, a Roseanne cartoon ("Little Rosie") and this Hammerman cartoon. But for the life of me I was never in the know of a got-damn "Kid n' Play" cartoon

With all that he had going on, how did he go broke? I was a bit too old to even think about watching this cartoon, not that I heard of it.

^ I bet when you're caught up in a hot streak like that, GG, with money coming at you from all sides... it's hard to imagine that it'll ever end. Why would it ever end? (Except that it always does.)

^glad to enlighten you -- which i know i rarely do! cool. i also thought hammer just tried to cram way too much in the theme song...it's like, we don't have to know the whole backstory, it's for kids!

UBM, you might be interested to know (if you didn't already)--the voice of Hammerman? Clark Johnson. Your colleague from Homicide & The Wire!
