Playlist: Italian-American actors, singing

Joe Pesci. Tony Danza. Danny Aiello. Dominic Chianese. Put ’em together and you’ve got a kick-ass gangster movie. Or a not-so-kick-ass record album.

Click the song titles below to listen via my Vox blog.

1. “Pennies from Heaven” – Joey DeFrancesco & Joe Pesci

2. “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter” – Tony Danza

3. “All of Me” – Danny Aiello

4. “For the Good Times” – Dominic Chianese

How much do these vanity albums cost to make? I think that anyone making such an album should be required to put up matching funds with the proceeds going to the music program at a poorly-funded school. If the world must be subjected to their singing, then some good should come out of it.

Didn't Paul Sorvino leave the acting biz to try his voice at opera? Did he record anything?

^ Well done, Kellybelle. Sorvino sang on Broadway back in the '70s. He put out an album in 1996 called "Paul Sorvino Sings."

I can't lay hands on that, but here's a song he sang from the soundtrack of "The Cooler"... BAM!

There's something peculiarly Italian-American about singing as a manly pursuit.

Joe Pesci sounds like he's channeling Jimmy Scott. Danza and Aiello sound like they're channeling every bad Vegas lounge singer. And Dominic Chianse ain't gonna make anybody forget Al Green.
