A free Avery Sharpe & John Blake download

You know what I kinda like? Jazz violin. I’m talking about Billy Bang, Regina Carter, Stuff Smith... well, I don’t know many other jazz violinists.

But I recently discovered John Blake, Jr. A track from Blake’s 2005 duo album with bassist Avery Sharpe – “Epic Ebony Journey” – is available as a FREE MP3.

Between the two of them, Sharpe and Blake have recorded and toured with the likes of McCoy Tyner, Archie Shepp, Pat Metheny and Grover Washington.

Click here to hear “Movin’ Up” (a Blake composition) on my Vox blog. To download it, click the title below.

Holy crap! John Blake's still around? Wow. He played a show at my tiny little college in western MA back when I was a freshman -- in 1989 -- and completely blew my mind. I'd pretty much forgotten about him: time to go see what else he's got for sale.

Wow, I can't believe some one else matches my passion for jazz violin.

Great song...this is another CD you will send me out to purchase, just like the E. Spaulding joint!

Nice track, thanks!

You might dig the work of Mat Maneri, though he tends to be a bit more "out."
