A free LaWanda Page download

Wanna start your week off with some filth? Some old-school ghetto-style raunch?

I got a LaWanda Page FREE MP3 for y’all.

If you only know the late Ms. Page from “Sanford & Son,” you don’t know how filthy she could get. Old girl put the “come” in comedy.

I saw LaWanda Page live on stage in 1992 – on a bill with Rudy Ray Moore and Wildman Steve – and she took her drawers off and draped them over men’s faces in the audience. The crowd went wild.

But even that little mental snapshot won’t prepare you for “Suck It Dry,” a 3-minute routine from “Watch It Sucker,” an LP originally released in 1977. (Page’s old X-rated comedy records have been digitally reissued.)

Click here to hear “Suck It Dry” on my Vox blog. (Not Safe For Work!) To download it, click the track title below.

I'm not entirely yet convinced LaWanda is a woman, y'know... and that picture ain't helping.

Also, well wishes to Bernie Mac and Morgan Freeman. Hope they get better soon.

^ Hey Michael. The original was on Laff, the reissue's on Uproar... both run by David Drozen. Him and his dad Louis (at least I've always assumed they were father-and-son) would make a great magazine profile.

Hello there!

I think that taking off panties and putting them on someone is just plain nassss-teeeee!

She was funny on "Sanford and Son" with her eye-rolling and hands-on-hips posture... she was a caricature...

But sometimes too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

During that time, there were black sitcoms in which the black woman was being portrayed as sassy and flip and condescending to the black man... Aunt Esther...Flo...Wilona...big Shirley

There wasn't any balance to off set that depiction where black women were being portrayed differently.

Even in the show with the Wayans brother that is on now with that woman who played on "Martin"...she is often berating her husband and acting like a fool...

Black women are tired of having that recurring image...this is why the whole Tyler Perry in drag character (MaDeah) that packs a gun and is sassy is NOT funny...

It's time to present black women differently...even in comedy.

Can anyone name three tv shows in the last five years (that were hits) where a black woman in a lead role was portrayed as intellectual and insightful?

See my point?

And please don't say "Touched By An Angel"...

"Law & Order," "Grey's Anatomy" and... umm... "The Proud Family"?

Dude, ...that was the BOMB!!!! Back in the day my crew would hook school, get stoned on weed and spend the afternoon listening to LaWanda, Redfox, Dolomite, Moms, and Pigmeat. Brings back memories.

I think LaWanda was also a well known and fairly hot dancer in her younger days too!

Peace.
