A free Harriet Tubman download

Okay, who do I see about getting a late pass? I’m just now checking out the music of Harriet Tubman, a black-rock trio I’ve known about for years.

The résumés of guitarist Brandon Ross (pictured), bass player Melvin Gibbs and drummer JT Lewis will blow you away. They roll with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Sting, Vernon Reid, Cassandra Wilson and Henry Rollins.

As Harriet Tubman, they’ve put out two albums in 10 years. But they’re streaming new material on their MySpace page... including one FREE MP3 (which you can download if you have a MySpace account).

Click here and put your ear to “Cant Tarry” on my Vox blog. Brandon Ross also does the singing.

Dave, where have you been? When I was bedridden with my torn achilles, I shouted about mySpace and Harriet Tubman and Melvin Gibbs in particular. These cats are the SHIT!!! Check out their cd Prototype. Some baad-ass sheeit. Melvin Gibbs kills. Brandon Ross does some nice layers. JT Lewis some serious polyrhythms on the drums and cymbals.

Good to see them getting a shout-out. They were on BETJ's Live at the Knitting Factory back when BETJ stood for BET Jazz. Not a perfect jazz channel, but MUCH better than the SHIT it has become.

^ Gibbs I've blogged about before. And you're not the only one who's been at me about Harriet Tubman.

What can I say, DeAng? Sometimes it takes me a minute... but eventually I get there.

^At least you got there, bruh.

How about a Praxis download?

Can you believe I just donated the hardest ticket to get in town for the Obama speech?

This is why I come to this blog. Some Harriet Tubman love and a Praxis shout-out. Gotta love it.

Brandon Ross produced my wife's demo a while back, too. Great musicians.

Very cool. I'm embarrassed not to have heard his music until now.

Thanks, Invisible Hand.
