Not that it necessarily excuses the tone-deaf nature of the ad or anything; but E-mobile has had that monkey as a mascot for a while now. There's also a Soap Opera in Japan called CHANGE about a neophyte politician that suddenly becomes Prime Minister.
It's quite possible that this has absolutely nothing to do with the US elections. I really don't know.
^ Thanks, Dana. The fact that the monkey is an established mascot does change the context.
But you should've clicked the link in my post. According to the news report:
"The company that aired the ad, eMobile Ltd., said it had no idea of any racial undertones and insisted the ad was an acknowledgement of Obama's popularity."
Not only are we seeing a lot of racism this election cycle, it's Old School, out-of-date, totally retarded, Do-People-Even-Say-That-Any-more? racism. Black people as monkeys or apes? Isn't that past its prime?
For example, the Obama as Curious George T-shirt. The Obama sock monkey. What year is it again?

UBM I wonder were they got that idea from?
But still, call all you want 24 hours a day for only $20 a month? Can't really beat that.
God is good, the sky is blue, and blacks are the most beautiful people in the world.

Was that a whitey monkey shedding a tear at the end?? LOL
That shit is horrible though, even if it is calling blacks AND whites monkeys.
Wow. The only thing more offensive would have been to have him fist-bumping with a gibbon in a wig. SMH

^Whoops, you're right; should have done my homework.
An interesting addendum is that although they've cut the television spot the same ad is still being circulated in print.
