A free Rene Marie download

Here’s one consequence of jazz singer Rene Marie showing out yesterday in Denver: More people now know her name than knew it before. Such as me.

I have found a FREE MP3. It’s the title track of Rene Marie’s well-regarded 2001 CD, “Vertigo.”

Among the musicians on this album are Mulgrew Miller, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Chris Potter and trumpeter Jeremy Pelt (whom I blogged about in April).

To hear the song “Vertigo” streaming on my Vox blog, click here. To download it, click the title below.

Rene is from my hometown, Richmond, Va. She used to work at the bank with my wife.

Oh snap! Did she hate America back then too? ;^)

UBM thanks for the download. What an awesome voice Rene has.

Mills, you unpatriotic America-hating mofo. I see you put a sidebar of the anti-american for revolution calling Cuban rapper Telmary Diaz up.

Don't let Michelle Malkin find out about that one.

JJBrock: I'm glad you like her. I can't believe she's been such a well-kept secret.

Fisher: I'm not done blogging about Telmary yet... and I will thank you fulsomely for introducing me to her music.

Of course, I keep art and politics separate; some can't. But like I've said before, the best thing about the black nationalist movement has been its artistic byproducts -- Gil Scott-Heron, the Last Poets, Jayne Cortez, Joe McPhee, Horace Tapscott...

What is Telmary's story anyway? If she's down for la revolución, what's she doing in Canada? Why (and how) did she leave Cuba?

Didn't you know?
All revolutionaries live in Canada!

Fight the powers that be!
