Bring in the clowns

“Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt done went nigga-baby crazy. Oh they just buying them little muhfuckas up like they souvenirs! Salt-pepper shakers and shit.”
– Don “D.C.” Curry

Ah, the wit and wisdom of the American Negro. Don’t you wish “Def Comedy Jam” was on 24 hours a day? On, like, every channel?

No? Okay. Me neither, then.

Regardless... you might be interested to know that the third season of “Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-Up” premieres tonight on the pay-cable channel Starz.

Start time: 10 p.m. (Eastern and Pacific).

I never heard about the previous two seasons of “Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-Up.” (And I’m not angry about that.)

The host of the show, comic Doug Williams, I never heard of either... until a couple of weeks ago. That’s when I stumbled on a YouTube video of Jamie Foxx absolutely DESTROYING this dude a few years ago at an ESPN roast of Emmitt Smith. That clip is embedded below.

But back to “Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-Up.”

Executive producer Martin Lawrence doesn’t do any performing on this show. But there are occasional cutaway shots of him sitting in the loge, laughing at the shenanigans of various comedians onstage. (Tonight: Don “D.C.” Curry and Rickey Smiley.)

Whereas I cracked a smile probably twice.

I do tip my hat to Mr. Lawrence for staging the show at D.C.’s historic Lincoln Theatre.

Now... sit back and enjoy Jamie Foxx brilliantly CLOWNING Doug Williams. So funny! It’s amazing Doug Williams still has a sense of self, let alone a career in show business.

Ahh, Jamie Foxx, the most unlikely of careers. It really makes one wonder; how many other shitty standup comics are out there that are secretly great dramatic actors who haven't been given the chance? (although that clip was admittedly funny)

jamie foxx is so wrong for doing that. it was still funny as hell though.

Haha! That was actually genuinely funnier than anything I saw/heard on “1st Amendment!”

As Wanda said, Jamie was so wrong for clowning him like that... so, so wrong. But it was funny!

Damn. He did him greezy. Appropriately greezy but greezy nonetheless.

Honestly, that's the funniest bit of stage work I've ever seen Jamie Foxx do. He should do more improvised stuff like that because his written material is usually pretty cornball.

That was painful to watch.

By a mile.

Yep, Jorge. I don't remember ever being impressed by his standup. Or his sketch playing either. Or his sitcom work.

But this particular piece of improv shows a mighty strong comic mind. The timing!

That's just heckling. Hecklers aren't class.

That was brilliant. Hilarious and brilliant. Don't you want Jamie to heckle all the hacks until they sit down? I do.

Oh, snap! And did he call him by the wrong last name at the end?

^ Yep, he called him Doug Christie, who's a basketball player. I don't know if that was a slip of the tongue or a dis.

And you know what, maria? They probably chose one of their strongest episodes to start the season.

sorry meant to say HAIR in his ass crack!!!

I'm gonna go with dis, UBM. Jamie should not have taken offense to Williams' jabs, given that they were at a roast, but it did result in a really funny bit (and in Williams being ultra-pissed, judging by the look on his face after it ended).

^ It's moments like that when you understand the true meaning of the word PWND!

Given Doug Christie's reputation, especially where it concerns his wife, I'm thinking it was a total dis.
