Want some Brazilian hotness? Everybody likes the Brazilian hotness.
Maria do Céu Whitaker Poças – known simply as CéU – is a singer-songwriter from São Paulo. Her “passion” for black music is such that she cites Billie Holiday, Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley as influences.
Her sultry, funky 2005 track “Ave Cruz” is available as a FREE MP3. Click here to stream it on my Vox blog.
It’s from CéU’s self-titled debut CD, released in the United States in 2007 (with the promotional backing of Starbucks).

Good call! I have CéU’s debut album. I haven't listened to it in a while, but do listen to "Ave Cruz" every so often; it's on my mp3 player. It's my favorite track. I think I first got it as a free download at calabashmusic.com.
I got interested in her when I was into Brazilian artist Daniela Mercury and the Brazilian influenced music of Zuco 103.
I like her and downloaded her album. Since I don't know what the heck she is saying, she maes good background music when I'm writing.
On the Klezmer tip, have you ever heard of Abraham Inc.? It's klezmer and funk. I likes. http://www.abrahamincmusic.com/live/
^ If Fred Wesley's in the mix, I'm gonna be all over it. Thanks for that, Kellybelle.
Bklyn6: It's been months since I've checked out Calabash Music. I need to fix that.
