Nigerian bandleader Tony Allen is a founding father of Afrobeat. He served as Fela Kuti’s drummer throughout the 1970s. And he’s still making music.
The title track of Allen’s first solo LP – “Jealousy” (1975) – is available as a FREE MP3. Click here to hear it on my Vox blog.
It’s got that Fela sound, and that’s no surprise. It was produced by Fela.
“Jealousy” appears on the 2007 double-CD “Afro Disco Beat,” which contains all of Tony Allen’s 1970s solo material.
