A free Marcia Ball download

I can’t get enough of that Louisiana rhythm & blues lately. So here’s a FREE MP3 from Marcia Ball, veteran blues singer, piano banger and certified funky white chick.

Ms. Ball’s brand new album – “Peace, Love & BBQ” – includes guest appearances by Dr. John and zydeco master Terrance Simien.

The free track is called “Down in the Neighborhood.” Click here to hear it on my Vox blog.

To download it, click the song title below:

Those of you with a MySpace account, I can point you to another freebie. For her 2005 live album, Marcia Ball covered Randy Newman’s “Louisiana 1927.” Click here to hear it on my Vox blog.

To download that one, follow this link to Marcia Ball’s MySpace page.

I last heard Marcia on the Katrina Tribute album, "Sing Me Back Home", where she dueted with New Orleans Living legend Irma Thomas on "Look Up"...which the girls and I liked.

I'm still catching up to her earlier recordings and find myself comparing and contrasting her work with Shemekia Copeland, Lou Ann Barton and Joanna Connor.... as well as 2 of my personal faves, Susan Tedeschi and Saffire I'm told by the friend in D.C. who introduced me to some of the latest generation of Blues women that there is a huge fan base of Blues Women there.

If I run across latest, I'm sure I'll give a spin...But I must admit that I thought she was covering the latest from current 4-Top, Ronnie McNeir when I saw the song title.
