Madonna’s in the what Hall of Fame??

Remember when we discussed this year’s sorry bunch of nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Well, the Class of 2008 has been announced.

To be inducted into the Rock Hall in March are:

Madonna. John Mellencamp. Leonard Cohen. The Ventures. The Dave Clark Five.

Not making the cut were Chic, Donna Summer, Afrika Bambaataa and the Beastie Boys.

Wait, y’all... don’t light up yer Molotov cocktails just yet. Philly-soul architects Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff were admitted in the non-performer category. (You mean they wasn’t already in? That’s a buncha buuullshit!)

Also, blues harpist Little Walter was let in as a “sideman.”

The friggin' Dave Clark Five? No wonder Ike Turner dropped dead.

I said my piece the last time we talked about this. I can't believe Enos Cabell got in, and I can't believe anyone thinks Madonna doesn't belong.

Yeah all right mon-sewer, but tell me this... Who the FUCK is gonna wanna hang around and watch this year's inductees' jam session??

Good point. Even Cohen, not my fave but I think a reasonable choice, isn't exactly gonna set the stage on fire, is he? Anyway, jam sessions by rockers are almost always boring. At least each inductee has one good song they can play. In the case of a couple of them, they just play the same song over and over and over again, for that matter. You think if the Dave Clark Five did a medley of their hits, anyone would be able to tell when one song ended and another began? They make the Ramones sound like Ornette Coleman.

Apart from the DC5, this is a reasonable list.

I can't think of a Madonna hit, and certainly couldn't hum one if you asked. But she belongs for here sheer entertainment value and she pimped it better than almost anyone with similar marginal talent.

On that basis, we'll see Britney Spears in there sometime within the next fifteen years.

This is a horrible list. Based on your previous post, I couldn't believe The Meters hadn't been in, let alone still waiting.

Chic and Donna Summer epitomized the disco craze (not that that was real disco, but that's another discussion). If Madonna is in, they should've been right there.

Afrika Bambaata was there KILLIN' at the incept of the hip hop era. If there was a Hip Hop HOF, he would've been in there already.

The Beastie Boys? Only if you think Elvis Presley had true talent. And since the HOF, like other artistic institutions, has a reverse affirmative action wing, I guess they get in. For my money, they're no more talented than The Osmond Brothers.

And let's be clear, Madonna is only in because she's a sex freak.

So I'm waiting on the original diva freaks, Betty Davis and Betty Wright, to get in.

What? You don't want to hear The Ventures and Cohen jamming on "Sisters of Mercy?"

Yes, I do.

I take it you haven't seen them perform live? They're extremely talented and oh, yeah, they can play instruments, too.

Unlike Madonna. Who sucks. And doesn't belong in a music HOF (though she should be tops at a marketing HOF). Believe, mon-sewer.

I'd much rather hear the Sisters of Mercy jamming on Cohen.
