One of Smokey Robinson’s lesser tunes (very lesser), this was recorded in 1967 by the Marvelettes.
Could this be the only song in Motown history never covered by another artist?
(Hat-tip, as always, to YouTube’s 45 king, thunderbird1958.)

I don't think it was ever recorded by another artist but Teena Marie sampled it on her Could This Be Magic recording.
Haven't yet played the stream, but I can almost still hear that funny sound effect. sproing!
I'm pretty sure I saw Patti Smith of all peeps do it live around 1980.
Off topic, but tagged you on my blog!
This was a GREAT song & record! When I first heard it as a kid it reminded me of the Marvel caracter, "Doctor Strange".
Sounds like Smokey might have written this around the same time as the great, "Hunter Gets Captured By The Game".
^ ... sproing!
WOAAAHHH stop! I have an amazing cover version of this on tape - by a man singing from his perspective 'I'm sure I must be a magician cos I sure got the magic touch'. It is FANTASTIC, but unfortunately I don't know who it is, just that it is very old and very very cool. If you can find out, pleeeeease tell me....!
