A time for action

I’ll be picketing this afternoon in front of my old stomping grounds, Warner Bros. Studios.

What better way to psych up for a labor action than with some old-fashioned suck-ass Communist rock-’n’-roll? BAM!

I see you've been all up in my little humble abode Johnny Ringo. You're even chatting over tea and crumpets this morning here in the ladies lounge..., but as yet, you haven't mustered the testicular fortitude to accept my invitation to front street.

Poor soul, did you just get a little too high-strung over the weekend?

Mr. Nulan, I cannot accept an engagement on the terms you propose.

First, I reject the style of dialectic argumentation demonstrated at Maxambit over the weekend... because it is a European invention, and thus is disconsonant with the nature of non-white peoples.

Second, I seek to minimize the amount of time I spend on the Internet, because the Internet is a creation of the U.S. Military-Industrial Complex, the spearpoint of the Global System of White Supremacy, and thus cannot serve the interests of non-white peoples.

Third, I resent having to express my thoughts using the Latin alphabet, because it is a white creation.

However, given the impracticality of you and I ever squaring off directly with voices and drums, I think a frank, unstructured dialogue would be of more value than a pseudo-intellectual circle jerk.

So is there anything civilians can do to support the writers strike that will make a difference?

Good for you for making your voice heard today. America would be a better place if more people stood up for their rights.

I end up reading a lot about labor rights for work, and last year I came across a comparison of Chinese sweatshops to Vietnamese ones. Though conditions in both countries are horrible, Vietnamese sweatshops tend to be more humane because Vietnamese people simply won't stand for some things. Chinese workers, for example, are often made to work up to 18-hour days. Vietnamese people straight-up leave work at 8 pm, and won't do overtime. Hands down. In Vietnam, everyone will simply leave work if they see someone being beaten by one of the managers, something that goes on routinely in China.

Not to *remotely* compare Hollywood writers to sweatshop workers, but I get inspired by Vietnam's example. Stick it to The Man.

Your comment is about the funniest thing I've read in a long time, David. Thanks for the huge chuckle.

And, see you on the picket lines, David.

That was indeed a very funny comment.

Also, Tina Fey has joined the picket line too!

Get your picket on, UBM. Hope the walk out doesn't last as long as the one in '88.

However, given the impracticality of you and I ever squaring off directly with voices and drums, I think a frank, unstructured dialogue would be of more value than a pseudo-intellectual circle jerk.

May I suggest a battle dance-off?

@Jena6: You got served! haha

@ubm: Sorry I'm just reading this; I would have come by and brought you a veggie burger :-)

Thanks for all expressions of solidarity.

We were a fired-up picket line today. Lots of support from passing drivers... Only an occasional thumbs-down or muttered "Assholes!"

We need to be hard and strong. Because the only way the studios would've allowed this to happen is if they were prepared for a long one... thinking that might break us.

Eric, as of now I don't know what civilians could do to help things along. Just don't get too mad at us when you be missing Conan or "The Daily Show."

IW: Well, I'll be back out at Warner Bros. tomorrow afternoon... ;^D

I'll wear a "Wire" cap so as to stand out in a crowd...

Break a leg out there, UBM! Don't let those $20m suits ruin your $200k job ;-D

I don't watch any of the late-night shows anymore, but if I don't have my Soup...

Hello from the Blue Eyed White Devil...I really appreciate your insightful comments and of course I love The Wire.

I am here to wish the best in your strike...you guys deserve more cash from the sales of DVDs and other stuff.

I am also here to let you know that my band, Jwonder, is about to start the mastering process for 7 songs which are part on a string (3 - 4 depending if when we run out of money or sanity or both) of funkpunkjazzROCK Operas/albums based on the characters and themes of The Wire. We are not doing this in a "single white female" manner but rather in praise/tribute of our favorite show of all time and possibly to get more 'mericans to watch The Wire. We will release the albums with no specificate mention of The Wire in the linear notes.

We hope that we do not piss anybody off who is part of the scene but every one else id free game. However, considering our small following we may only reach a few of those so called 'mericans. Thanks for your time...

Whatever you have to do to keep network television from becoming 100% reality I support.

By the way UMB, I thought I worshipped you before but come to find out you write for my favorite tv show (The Wire). Its all too much.

ps. - I linked to your Color Me Badd post from my blog last week.
