A free Lonnie Plaxico download

Drummer/bandleader Art Blakey schooled several generations of musicians in the Jazz Messengers. High-impact artists such as Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton, Woody Shaw, Bobby Watson and Wynton Marsalis.

Bass man Lonnie Plaxico played alongside Terence Blanchard and Mulgrew Miller in the mid-’80s Messengers. He later got credentialed as a fusionist with Jack DeJohnette.

Since 2000, Plaxico has led his own projects.

I happily point you to a FREE MP3 of the title track from “West Side Stories,” Plaxico’s 2006 CD. You must be registered at AllAboutJazz.com in order to download it; follow this link if you wanna make that move.

You can sample more of Lonnie Plaxico’s music – and hear a brief interview with the man – by downloading this 32-minute podcast from Avatar Studios in Manhattan.
