New Artist Alert: Alice Smith is a 29-year-old Brooklyn-based rock-’n’-soul singer with substantial pipes... and some major-label hype.
Her debut album, “For Lovers, Dreamers & Me,” came out last year on the indie label BBE. Rolling Stone magazine designated Alice Smith an “Artist to Watch.”
Lo and behold, that album has been picked up and re-released by Sony BMG. It’ll be in stores next Tuesday. It’s downloadable from iTunes right now.
Two tracks – “Dream” and “New Religion” – are available as FREE MP3s at Download.com. Just follow this link.
You can also click here and stream “Dream” on my Vox blog. (Smith really cooks in the final minute.)

LOVE Alice! "Do I" is my absolute absolute fave!
Entourage used one of her songs not too long ago and she was a Starbucks/iTunes Song of the Day.
She's been around for awhile now so I hope all of this "mainstream" activity around her actually bumps her up to the next level this time.
It's tiring watching good people get this kind of repeated buzz only to watch them flounder and remain skimming the indie scene especially when they want to take it to the next level, lol.
UBM,
I'm so glad Stephen Dubner, mentioned your blog.
You've expanded my world.
Keep it up!
^ Nice of you to say, Jeffrey. Thanks for commenting.
I picked up this album earlier this year and loved, loved, loved it. It's great from beginning to end. Reminds me a little of Joan Armatrading, and little of RES, but is its own thing. With this re-issue, I hope she gets the success she deserves.
Hi,
I love Alice. I agree with The Pop view, she reminds me of Joan Armatrading whom I love! Alice especially sounds like Joan on Gary Song. Which is in heavy rotation on my ipod at the moment.
Thanks
