‘The Corner’ on UBM-TV

I can hardly take any credit for what’s good about the 2000 HBO miniseries “The Corner.”

David Simon and Ed Burns did the extraordinary original reporting for their book. The late Bob Colesberry brought A-list Hollywood producing expertise. Roc Dutton directed the hell out of a great cast of actors.

But I did contribute one fine idea: having characters speak directly to camera (with Dutton as an off-screen interrogator) as a framing device for each episode.

Somebody just put a few of those scenes up on YouTube. So I’m happy to feature them on my Google Video Bar.

It's been years since I watched those sequences. Damn, David. Now I'm going to have to go and find my dusty VHS copies -- or, failing that, buy the DVDs.

I can hit you off with the DVDs, Alan. After all, you're my blogfather!
