I’ve got a feeling I’ll give away the “Mingering Mike” book this time.
Here’s the contest: Click here, listen to the audio track, then tell me who that guitar player is.
The first person to put the musician’s name in the comments section will win a copy of the great new book about D.C.’s imaginary soul superstar, the one and only Mingering Mike. (There’ll never be another one like him… because he never existed in the first place!)
Have fun.
UPDATE (04/26/07): We have a winner. Pandyora correctly identified the artist as Bill Frisell.
This track, “Blues Dream,” is from his 2001 CD “Bill Frisell with Dave Holland and Elvin Jones.”
Feels like it belongs in a David Lynch movie, doesn’t it?

Andrew Hill?
Andrew Hill was a pianist. I'm going to take a stab and say it's Nels Cline who recorded some of Andrew Hill's material and is a helluva jazz guitarist when he ventures down that road.
I wouldn't make it that easy, Dez. As a lifelong game-show nerd, I want there to be some sport in it.
Great guess, S.O.L. But nope.
By the way, why haven't you blogged in a couple of weeks? It's playoff time!
It was worth a try :-) How about a hint?
BTW, "South Park" is repeating the "naggers" ep tonight (and possibly a few times this week). Also, last night's "Boston Legal" featured a subplot where Denny called a black litigator "articulate." Personally, I found it one of Kelley's weaker attempts to make a point, but I thought you might be interested that the topic was tackled in a scripted show.
UBM, been in LA doing the staffing meetings and then had dental surgery. The painkillers alone have me down for the count but I promise to make up for it by this weekend. Lots of NBA-ing to write about.
That has to be Bill Frisell, no?
You got it, Pandyora!

Thanks for playing!
I'm so embarrassed. I HAVE that CD. Doh!
^ That's funny!
