This morning I saw Steve Harvey playing roulette at the Harrah’s New Orleans. (He performed last night at New Orleans Arena.) Sharp- dressed man... except for the sunglasses worn indoors.As for me... I didn’t wanna deal with the poker room waiting list, so I messed around on the slot machines. Walked outta there $90 ahead. Woo-hoo!

I'm impressed that you're able to escape WF with just a $90 dollar one bag bill. Must be one of the small bags. ;)

ReplyDeleteBy the way since you are in New Orleans, here's my list as a native of the things you should do while you are here:
ReplyDelete1. Visit Backstreet Cultural Museum (in Treme, can be useful to your writing?)
2. Eat at Lil Dizzy's and Dooky Chase (best authentic Creole food in New Orleans)
3. Get a PoBoy from the Gas Station on Louisiana and Carondolet (yeah, I know a gas station, get a Hot Sausage with Cheese, dressed if possible)
4. Visit the Zulu Club on Broad Street with a member (I'm not one since I am female and unfortunately, I have no connections but hey in New Orleans, someone always has a connection)
5. Go see the Soul Rebels Brass Band at Le Bon Ton Roule on Thursday nights
6. Take a ride on the St. Charles Streetcar
7. Buy a King Cake for your Krewe (Treme) on King Day (12 days after Christmas, when the Kings made it to the Baby Jesus birth site)- this also begins the Carnival Season
8. If you are still in town, Mardi Gras (of course), need to start on Jackson Avenue, then go "Under the Bridge" in Treme
9. Go to the Zulu Ball (hence getting those connections), so you can sit VIP and not with the rest of us phlebs
10. Visit the Palm Court Jazz Cafe in the French Quarter(they have weird hours, so you have to check), great food and old school Jazz!
11. Visit Congo Square (in the middle of Armstrong Park) soak in it's history. This is where slaves were allowed to practice "their religion."

ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed a couple of meals at Lil Dizzy's. And I hung outside the Backstreet Cultural Museum for when the skeletons came out last Mardi Gras morning. But I haven't been inside.
By the way, UBM, ripe bananas are excellent in oatmeal and banana bread. Of course, the bread usually leads to trouble...
