Laid to rest

Remember when I blogged about Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale – the awesomest cemetery in America – just a month ago?

Little did I know that it would be Michael Jackson’s final resting place.

A couple miles from my house, as we speak, the Jackson family is gathered at Forest Lawn – along with guests such as Elizabeth Taylor, Macaulay Culkin, Chris Tucker and Aretha Franklin (who will sing) – for the interment service.

Michael’s crypt will be in the Great Mausoleum... alongside such Hollywood legends as Clark Gable and W.C. Fields.

About an hour ago, the Rev. Al Sharpton tweeted from the graveyard: “I am sitting at the burial services of michael jackson. I am talking to actress lisaraye mc coy who was at NAN when MJ came and tom mesereau”

  1. Sigh. Tweeting at the burial site? I find that just as disturbing as the person who didn't check to make sure their cell phone was off at a little girl's burial.

I just feel there are some situations that call for stillness.

  2. 'Drea I'm with you on that. Tweeting, texting, and anything but crying or being stoic is tacky.

Then again, the family was 90 minutes late and Rev. Al was probably bored.

  3. Reading the list of celebs in paragraph two, and before I even saw the last one, I thought about Lisa Raye. I saw her with Sharpton on tv this morning. She was also riding in the same car as Lil Kim during MJ's memorial. I didn't realize that she was so close to the Jackson family.

  5. I've added Rev. Al to my Twitterati link list in the sidebar. As you can see, he didn't just tweet the once, before the service. He also tweeted during the service. To wit:

"I just spoke at the conclusion of tributes. Gladys knight sang her heart out. Now we prepare to lay him [to] rest."

Tacky, yeah. But he's fulfilling the Twitter creed.

  6. If I might believe the new reports, the body arrived at the grave site an hour and a half late after remaining unburied for so long. I sure hope the Jackson family can get it together at some point.

  7. Okay, I get that Lisa Raye has nothing better to do than attend stuff like this...but really? Why is she there? Did Al put her down? Or did she have some unknown Jackson connection?
