... has crossed my radar. She’s a standup comic, born in England to Nigerian parents. Her name is Gina Yashere.
Now living in Los Angeles, Gina got a big career boost last Thursday night when she performed on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.”
Her London accent doesn’t really move me – too much bass in it. But Gina Yashere has some decent jokes. I’m gonna keep an eye out for more.
See what you think of her:
This is the funniest I've seen her! Incidentally, she has lost weight too, I think, LOL
ReplyDelete^ Where'd you see her before? You ain't in the U.K., is you?
ReplyDeleteHeh, haven't been to the U.K. since 2000!
ReplyDeleteI swear she was on Last Comic Standing, just don't remember when.
I've liked Yashere since she appeared on Last Comic Standing. I like her bit about "hardcore" rappers but it was nice to see her again especially since she has fresh material.
ReplyDeleteShe is rockin' that lime green. I think that's a gorgeous picture of her. By the way, UBM, that was a nice picture of Condi Rice that you posted a few days ago. I'm also diggin' the Matrix pic.
My favorite black Brit chick is Sophie Okenedo, a fabulous actress in whatever role or whatever accent she uses. I especially liked her as Nancy in Oliver Twist.
ReplyDeleteAhh, Last Comic Standing. I stopped watching that after the second season.
ReplyDelete'Drea: Thanks.
Cop: "I thought you were black."
ReplyDeleteLOL
Thought Ms. Yashere was funny too, but her accent didn't do much for me either.
ReplyDeleteI love hearing Downtown Julie Brown from way back on early mTv days or Freema Agyeman, the gal from Dr. Who.
^ Freema Agyeman, eh? Yes.
ReplyDeleteHer accent's rather on the posh side, innit?
^ Not posh here, though. This is what I fancy.
ReplyDeleteYashere's Def Jam appearance was brilliant.
ReplyDeleteOh and Freema Agyeman? Hotness personified. Me like.
^ I had to go find that Def Comedy Jam clip, Eurasian. Here it is.
ReplyDeleteFreema Agyeman was terrific in Law & Order UK.
ReplyDeleteThe clip was blocked outside of the US. I watched her Def Jam clip on YouTube. Funny!
Incidentally, she has lost weight too, I think, LOL
ReplyDeleteYeah, check it out, daughterofthedream. Here's a clip from 2006. Gina was chunkier indeed.
Interesting to see her at ease in front of a London crowd.
I wish her the best of luck in the US. I only found out about her 4 years ago when I relocated back to the UK and love her take on fellow Nigerians. A couple of months ago I heard her on a radio interview recount her time in LA and her new found raw food diet... must admit she is looking soooo much better.
ReplyDeleteYou think she'll capture an American audience?

^ Raggy dee Ann, welcome to my spot. And thanks for the comment.
ReplyDeleteI think Gina has what it takes to prosper on the comedy-club circuit in the U.S.
I don't know about sitcoms and movies, however.
This was my intro to Gina Yashere. As a Nigerian I could easily relate!
