  2. Wow, I wish I was born just a few years earlier to partake in this! I fondly remember my big brother gettin' down and was sooooo jealous as a little girl!

  3. Hell yeah, Dave. They could do a dvd set featuring the Soul Train lines and I'd buy that shit.

  5. OMG! That brought a smile to my face. I remember trying to imitate them at parties - with all-girl Soul Train lines. And those polyester clothes!

  7. they should bring this back. i bet a new dance show would be hilarious. same concept with people performing too as long as it's like danceable music.

  9. Word, DeAngelo Starnes!

I was such a ST geek, fo' real! The album art to my soul music songs is a still photo of the Soul Train line.

I used to know a lot of their names. I had such a crush one of the dancers. I wrote him a letter c/o "Right On!" magazine and he wrote back. If you're reading this, I still love you Leonard Allen Jones. :-)

And I became friends with Tyrone "The Bone" Proctor (he's the dude whippin' his neck at 1:50. His partner's name was Sharon Hill). We met when we worked on the same street in the Village (NYC) many years ago.

I liked the ST line much better when couples danced together, as opposed to later on when they had separate lines for the ladies and guys.

I love these memories. Thanks for posting, UBM.

  11. What I love is knowing these young'uns are probably grandparents now, and so the funk line stretches on!

The joy looks a lot more carefreee back then, too.
