Last year, BBC Audiobooks released an audio version of James Baldwin’s 1963 book “The Fire Next Time,” recited by actor Jesse L. Martin.
Click here to hear a 4-minute excerpt from one of the book’s two essays, “My Dungeon Shook,” which Baldwin wrote in the form of a letter to his teenage nephew (also named James).
Jesse L. Martin's voice is HOT - like slipping into a nice warm bath! He could have been reading the phonebook for how much attention I paid to Baldwin's essay. What a voice coming from such a good looking man! What a way to start a Monday morning! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Jesse L. Martin, what ever happened to the Marvin Gaye biopic he supposedly left Law & Order to work on? Talk about a role being born to play...
ReplyDelete^ I was wondering the same thing, neptune.
ReplyDeleteIt's odd that there are only 2 Baldwin books available in audiobook format... to my knowledge anyway.
ReplyDelete"Sexual Healing," the Marvin Gaye biopic is currently in pre-production, scheduled for a 2010 release.

ReplyDeleteCool. (Even though music biopics often wind up disappointing.)
