Brooklyn rapper and convicted drug felon John Forté – whose prison sentence was commuted by President Bush 10 weeks ago – has a FREE MP3 out already.
Click here to hear “Homecoming” on my Vox blog. (The other rapper is Talib Kweli. The beat is Kanye’s.)

It's not all that hard to do anymore, but he definitely outshines Kweli on that track. Sounds pretty good.
ReplyDeleteThat beat still pisses me off, though. Kanye grabs Chris fucking Martin to sing the hook on a song that's all about how great Chicago is and how hard he reps it. Killed the song for me when I heard him trying to sing about Lake Michigan.
"President Bush doesn't care about black people."
ReplyDelete^ Unless they have Carly Simon and Orrin Hatch advocating for them.
ReplyDeleteI actually like the beat. Chris Martin doesn't ruin it so much for me. I try to pretend that it's John Legend singing the vocals. Sometimes that actually works.
ReplyDeleteForte also sounds completely different than he did back in the day. Guess his vocal chords deepened or something in the joint.
Anyway, my hope is John uses this gift of a pardon to preach about the stupidity of his crime. Really. I mean, there's not many things dumber than accepting a briefcase full of liquid coke at the Newark airport.
Not sure that the kids are checking for Forte right now, but in some circles he's got some celebrity and some pull. Hope he uses it well.

ReplyDeleteHee-heeeee...

ReplyDeleteMy first thought Orrin Hatch has negro blood too? I really didn't understand the connection. I looked it up, though.
I had no idea that John Forte went to Exeter.
