Doesn't everybody...? It's been ranked at the top of IMDB's "Top 250 films of all time" list for awhile.
I like it... but I like several other films better.
I lurve it too - it's one of those movies that I can start watching from any point and I'm completely captivated. I have my favorite parts that I wait for - one of them being when he goes to the tree and finds the box that Andy left him.
Talk about redemption.

I gotta go with Quirky on this. That movie is da bomb dot com! It's like 10 years old (RIP Gene Siskel), I've seen it dozens of times and it still doesn't get old. Can't say that about the rest of Darabont's films. They are good too, just not this damn good.
Believe it or not, FunkyHeadHunter, I've only seen "Shawshank" once... and quite a while ago. It didn't rock my socks.
I've been vaguely amused to see the reputation of this film grow as huge as it has. But I haven't got around to giving "Shawshank" a second look.
Shawshank and Stand By Me, the only Stephen King stories to film worth seeing more than once.

I love it also.
I always hear about how Stephen King adaptations suck...but the dude has four films based on his books in the imdb top 250. That's certainly better than most writers. (The other ones are "The Shining," "The Green Mile," and "Stand by Me.")
It's also interesting that "Stand by Me" and "The Shawshank Redemption" are from the same book ("Different Seasons.") That book --a collection of novellas--also inspired the film "Apt Pupil" but I guess you can't win them all.
