Remember when the Harlem Globetrotters had their own Saturday morning cartoon? I barely do. And I don’t remember the singing.
The music for this Hanna-Barbera show was supervised by Don Kirshner, who likewise oversaw the music for the Archies. The song below (“Bouncin’ All Over the World”) was co-written by Neil Sedaka.
Daaaag.
ReplyDeleteI actually remember the Globetrotter's cartoon, though not that particular clip. I think I even heard Scatman Crothers' voice. :-)
^ Indeed you did.
ReplyDeleteNow, do you remember the "Super Globetrotters" cartoon where they were all superheroes? Meadowlark had Aquaman-type powers, Curly could turn into a basketball, Geese Ausbie of them could duplicate himself, and Sweet Lou Dunbar had a giant afro that contained an endless supply of useful gadgets.
ReplyDeleteIt was awesome.
^ Lordy...
ReplyDeletei remember the superfriends one. my mother had to calm me down when curly turned into a basketball. i can see his mouth and eyes as he bounced after the bad guys. completely freaked me out!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at how much of the intro to the Super Globetrotters I remembered. Weirdly, though, in my head I had scored it with the (much much cooler) soundtrack of the original show, which I must have seen in syndication or something.
ReplyDeleteAnon
I vaguely remember the cartoon, but not this clip. It's scary to think of how much television my parents let me watch.
ReplyDeleteMan. In your picture, you look young enough ... but you must be as old as me: I remember that cartoon.
ReplyDeleteI remember this and The Super Globetrotters, and I think one of them was on the same summer as Muhammad Ali's "I Am The Greatest" cartoon.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there a "crossover" Scooby Doo ep too?
ReplyDeleteNo mention of white women dangling' a pie to make the Black man do her biding?
ReplyDelete^At least it wasn't a slice of watermelon or a plate of fried chicken. :p
ReplyDelete^ Ha-ha - I was thinking the same thing as I watched the clip.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Nigeria, so I didn't get to see this... but I do remember the "Super Globetrotters" cartoon that Alan above mentioned. I think I saw reruns in the 80s when I finally did make my way west, across the Atlantic.
I remember both the normal and the Super versions. I remember the real team from that era, too :-)
ReplyDeleteMore amazing that the 'Trotters were actually well known enough to warrant a cartoon. Mostly due to being on Wide World of Sports with Cosell nearly every other week.
ReplyDeleteYou could not name or recognize anyone these days.
Don't remember the Globetrotters having their own cartoon. But they were super cool on the original Scooby Doo show.
ReplyDeleteAnd I got to see them play back when the same team that started in Scooby were together.
I didn't know it was possible to get a free throw backwards from the opposing teams free throw line. That is until I saw them play. They were simply the best.
