Two days...

Something surprising and ironic has happened as this presidential race hit the homestretch: Foreign media provided two big embarrassments for the Obama and McCain campaigns.

First, a British newspaper – the Times – revealed that Barack Obama’s aunt from Kenya, Zeituni Onyango, is living in a Boston housing project. According to the Associated Press, she is an illegal immigrant.

Then came news yesterday that Sarah Palin has been pranked by a couple of radio tricksters in Montreal. Audio of a ridiculous phone conversation between Palin and a guy she presumed to be the president of France is now all over the Internet.

If you haven’t heard it yet, it is embedded below.

Time for this chaotic campaign to end already.

  2. Obama's coming to Cleveland this evening with Bruce Springsteen. Jay Z last week, Bruce today. Obama is one bad mother shut-yr-mouth.

Cross your fingers there is no drama between drunken Browns fans and Obama supporters.

  3. I was a bit hesitant about listening to that prank call. (I get easily embarrassed for others.) But, dang! Like one of the commentors at MSNBCs website said: Can anyone imagine Palin answering the red phone???????

    Word.

  4. ^ My first thought was: "There but for the grace of God goes Joe Biden."

Anybody can get pranked. But this one has the effect of reinforcing the perception of Gov. Palin as a lightweight.

  7. I'm like BKLYN6, I don't like to hear other people embarrass themselves and didn't want to listen, but my husband insisted on hearing it. If Palin couldn't figure out that she was being pranked she's a bigger idiot than I thought. I'm not even sure that Sarko has a command of English.

The way that Palin spoke to him was an embarrassment, e.g., talking about his beautiful wife, etc. This isn't a call from the PTA president in the next town over. I can't wait to we ship her out of the lower 48.

  9. Actually, on the story about Obama's aunt, there's reason to think that it was not research by foreign reporters at work. Apparently more than once in the past, Republican operatives have given info they wanted to enter the US media mainstream to someone from the Times of London, in order to make it less obvious that they were behind it. And remember that the Times is now the property of Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox News Channel.

  11. ^ I loved the rain line!

And his follow-up ad lib... "Sunshine is coming. In two days, we'll get rid of these clouds," or something like that.
