Were this an ordinary Thursday in New Orleans, I’d be looking forward to watching Kermit Ruffins perform at Vaughan’s tonight.
But this week Kermit and his band are in England, and so are the Rebirth Brass Band, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint and Buckwheat Zydeco.
Why? Because the New Orleans Saints will play an NFL game Sunday in London (versus the San Diego Chargers), and a two-day free music festival is part of the weekend’s festivities.
Last December I posted a FREE MP3 by Kermit Ruffins. Today I have another one.
Click here to hear “Skokiaan” from Kermit’s 2007 CD “Live at Vaughan’s.”
“Skokiaan” was composed 60 years ago by Zimbabwean bandleader August Msarurgwa and has been recorded by Louis Armstrong, Pérez Prado and the duo of Herb Alpert and Hugh Masekela.
